I love that press fit cover plate. I just gave some love to a 1951 L-72S 3/4" drive ratchet with the same type of plate. I punched it out which waa a lot easier. That tight fit is going to prevent dirt and other krustys from getting into the innards. Wish they still made em this way.

I've rebuilt a few of these now. The only thing I've needed to peen is the replacement selector switch. All of the Snap-On ratchets I've rebuilt I inherited from my grandfather, who was a professional mechanic for his career. When I got them in 1996, most were worn-out. Snap-On would have given me new ones as a "warranty" - that's not what I wanted. I WANT grandpa's ratchets. Thanks to Snap-On's parts availability and videos like this, I have all of Dewey's Snap-Ons running again! 👍

What works well to hold the spring while you put in the rocker is a piece of wire (like a paper clip etc) with the about 1/2 inch of the end of the wire hammered flat to make like a super thin mini flat blade. It works much better than a small screwdriver.

That ratchet looked like it had been rebuilt at some time. The ball and spring were not original for that year. To bad the overhaul kits don’t come with a higher tooth count.

I know this is an older video but I am only seeing now. You didn't mention, or perhaps you may not have noticed that there is an oil port on the top of the ratchet body that can be used to add oil as the grease dries. This is not a feature you normally see on ratchets, but it makes this tool better than others because the cover is a tight fit to keep debris out and it is far easier to squirt some oil in the oil port than to disassemble and regrease it. Another reason that these old tools are worth rebuilding.

The switch is connected with an aluminium rivet. We normally cut the switch off and the plate comes off easily. We also have a special tool for retaining the spring whilst you put the pawl in place. Why didn't Snappy do it for you?

Nice ratchet. Since everything that moves gets replaced, is there a retro kit to convert these older ratchets to 72 or 80 teeth? Probably not, but I think there could be. The new rebuild kits with 80 teeth would also likely not fit as that would hurt sales.
@TheSnapOnToolReview7 жыл бұрын
+Brian Bowman it would be interesting to see if there is a kit for that. I would convert it if I could for sure.

@The Snap-On Tool Review I just serviced a SH936A 1/2 in drive comfort handle ratchet I stole from a pawn shop for 30$. Its an older style ratchet that isn't Dual-80, and to make it worse I had to put the paw over a spring with just a loose ball bearing, it was so fucking irritating but I finally got it.Its cool to see a Canadian made Snap On ratchet, never knew they made them there. A lot of people are shit talking about the removing USA off the head of the ratchets, but if you look on the shank, i's stamped USA beside the tool part number, your thoughts? And is it bad I used wheel bearing grease in my ratchet, I mean if it can lube wheel bearings, Im sure it can lube a ratchet and paw, right?
