Again, can't go wrong with an old Briggs engine. Used to love working on them with my dad many years ago. Simple and reliable.

I agree, its my favorite engines to work on, I used to like Robin engines more back then. Now I am a fully converted Briggs fanboy haha. I recently got 4 more Briggs engines that might turn into a video in the future. I got a nice 8HP cast iron sleeved Briggs that's locked up from something, I might actually do that one real soon.

I like your bottle of anti-seize. My dad has a super old bottle of permatex anti-seize that he got from my grandfather, and I used that my whole life. That stuff last forever

It's always amazes me to see old mower engines cleaned up it sounded so good to here it purr why 2hp couldn't get 3.5 decal they are one of the best lawn mower/edger motors ever built wish you would have shown the torkeing of bolts would have been interesting to see what tork wrench you used excellent resto

I don't always show me fastening every nut or every detail, the video tends to feel stretched out. even as it is with a LOT of cut content it already feels too long.

When you use labels, use dish soap from a spray buttle. That allows you to make small "adjustments" before the label definitly is fasten🙂. Regards Stig Österberg from Dalsbruk in Finland

Looks great! I'm still curious why you choose to zinc plate instead of nickel like others do. Nickel plating seems to be an easier process.
@AJRestoration
@AJRestoration Жыл бұрын
Nickel plating is harder to do right. I prefer the look of zinc plating too.

I'm certain the idea is to preheat the fuel. The hot fuel vaporizes easier allowing for a more compete burn. This makes it run smoother and more efficiently. Cars used to do the same thing running the fuel lines near the exhaust.

Loving this series... but I cry foul for teasing us with the ice cream container (I'm hungry now)... and I would love to know what that non-acidic paint stripper was! And the coated screws are definitely "noice"... curiosity question: how do you decide between yellow and blue passivation? And boy that little Briggs sounds good!
@AJRestoration
@AJRestoration Жыл бұрын
Haha I have to admit, after I put on the ice-cream lid I had to go grab some to eat. Thank you, it does sound healthy. I decided the yellow passivation would look great with the white and blue, I got bored with the blue passivation haha

Awesome video. The engine looks like new. But I don’t think that’s the correct air filter for it. It could be but I don’t know. Also what happened to that metal plate that was in the back of the engine?. Isn’t that there to help with airflow around the engine

Nice!, but did you check the valve play?
@AJRestoration

Yeah I did, it was all within spec, so was the piston rings. This engine still had the crosshatching from the factory, it was basically brand new.

Was it a 2hp or a 3.5hp? Nice job.
@AJRestoration

It is a 2HP engine with a 3.5HP cowling/blower housing. Its not the original blower housing.

The engine is a 2HP engine, the blower housing is from another engine.

Looks like you used the wrong sparkplug and it is too tall, no way to ground it out to turn it off.

Actually you are correct, it was too long on the top, I had to change it later on. I left it in for a while so no dust and stuff could enter the cylinder.

It looks like you installed the wrong spark plug since the shut off lever doesn't reach the tip of the plug to short out the high voltage. And it was a 3.5HP and you put a 2HP decal on it. I also see you changed that spark plug too before the start up. Other than that a truly amazing rebuild for sure... Thumbs Up
@AJRestoration
@AJRestoration Жыл бұрын
Yes the spark plug was the wrong size, that is why I changed it later on. Also its a 2HP engine with a blower housing from another Briggs engine that was a 3.5HP vertical lawnmower engine. So the decal is correct and represents the engine.
