I remember getting this from my Mom! The playset itself became part of a MAMMOTH Cloud City I built with Styrofoam from my parents purchases.

I saw the notification that this video went live for members this morning & have been patiently waiting all day to check it out (especially after watching your unboxing video). I love those JC Penney & Sears Christmas Wish Books! Truly a staple in all my holidays in my childhood. This particular place that has eluded me for many years. And over those years, I've only seen the prices go up, and up, and up on complete, nice examples. It's still on my list but the prices make me sweat just a bit. 😅 I don't blame you for not wanting to fold up your unused playset. I certainly wouldn't. Glad You have such a good network of friends that can help subsidize the assembly footage. 😉 This is a pretty simple set but one I still really like. Definitely a unique piece, not great for play necessarily, but a great backdrop for display (as you noted in the video). Hahaha - You said I was close on my price guess - I wasn't too far off. That said, I think you did well my friend. 👍 Can't believe you're down to just one playset left on your original list. Very cool! 🤯 Another run almost done...

I really hate that the Micro Collection "flopped." They were some of my favorite toys as a kid, and I used the figures I had left for roleplaying miniatures when playing the classic West End Games Star Wars RPG.
@thepadawancollectorofficial4 ай бұрын
Yea I wish they would have gone into the return of the Jedi. I had some when I was a kid and I bet we would have gotten a throne room, Jabba scene, and Endor scene

@@thepadawancollectorofficial Oh, that would have been so. Freaking. Awesome. I had so much fun with all the Micro playsets, but most especially Hoth World. I loved the base, the turrets (TWO of em, thank you very much 3.75" line) and the main reactor. Somehow, I ended up with like, three Wampas. I also did the mail away for extra Rebel troopers and Snowtroopers.

@@thepadawancollectorofficial the Journey is real keeping all that stuff around since 77, when I was 7. My SW collecting has been refocused to Ralph Mcquarrie and other concept artist heroes, but I do need to put my early SW toys in proper displays. Thanks for sharing your approach, VERY HELPFUL. the micro collection did this right. the best Cloud City for the 3 3/4" hallways and docking is probably the old 1970s Fisher Price airport. there needs to be room for the figures to run and windows and the airport has both! i sold mine in 83.

I bought mine at Sears back when it came out. It was great to get the figures with it, but the only thing that sucked about it was losing the white pegs that you could put the figures on so that they could stand. I even sent a letter Kenner asking how I could get some replacement ones - they never responded. 😞
@thepadawancollectorofficial9 ай бұрын
Wow I think you are the first person who I know of still remembering that they bought theirs at Sears! Do you still have it???? Thanks for watching Joseph

@@thepadawancollectorofficial Yep, i still have it, though it's in a folded state at the moment and packed away. I distinctly remember buying it from a stand alone Sears store located right next to the Moorestown mall in NJ. when the playset was released. That's where I'd go to get all my figures. I still have the box for it as well.

The Cloud City playset is super cool! I remember wanting it so badly! Also wanted that Micro set. It's too bad that the micro playsets didn't sell well because I thought they were fantastic! The Vintage Collection set is pretty cool too. Not as colorful, but possibly more durable than the cardboard version. This playset would be great for displaying a Han Solo in Carbonite with. I still have my original Cloud City playset that I laminated and on display. I was disappointed that a deluxe Bespin playset was never made, but yes, Kenner used that concept for the micro collection. One thing: the carbon freeze silo will be supported better if squeezed in under the carbon chamber platform.

I have the cardboard At-At playset, and never really liked it. I remember trying to play with it alongside my real At-At, and that really wasn't satisfying. I did like that I got the Ion cannon with it, which was actually the best part, I never got the Mini-Fig cannon. What is surprising to me is that while I was the biggest Star Wars fan for the entire run and beyond, I never really remember any of these other cardboard or thin-cardboard playsets. I might have known that they existed, but to this day, I haven't seen one. I'm glad, because wow, I really don't like them. C.H.E.A.P. The plastic Death Star Playstation was my gold standard, so none of these cardboard things would ever work for me, I played with my stuff, it wasn't for display until I was in high school and the movies were long since over. I didn't have any of the real Hoth playsets, but I would have appreciated them better than these cardboard things. That's why if I was still collecting, I couldn't be a completist, I just don't have an appreciation for these things. Even though the Min-Rigs were often odd-looking, I liked them and they actually had some substance to them through being constructed in plastic. It would have been better to have more Mini-Rigs and no cardboard playsets. Also, it would be really neat if someone like Stan Solo re-created or made entirely new Mini-Rigs. Seems like the next step from figures! Also #2: I never had the Star Destroyer playset, that one is proof that just because it is in plastic, doesn't mean that it is any good. I don't know the profit margins or costs to make these things, but wow. From the Death Star playset and Millennium Falcon, to that! Boo.
@thepadawancollectorofficial9 ай бұрын
Hey Randy! Yea I have to agree that this Playset, and all of the cardboard playsets, aren’t the best quality or even sought after for being good toys. And yes even the Darth Vader star destroyer. But like you mentioned , I am getting them to be a completionist and also for the enjoyment of have things “not so good” toys in my collection for me to get a array of all the Star Wars vintage toys. Thanks for your comment and both taking the time to watch and write 🙌🏼
@RandyRydberg9 ай бұрын
Nothing against completionists, I totally understand that! I just don't envy your task! I often wonder that if I was a collector, would I army-build (likely), or try to just get everything that I liked? I'm a completionist in other things, so I get what you are doing, and we only have what they were able to make. It probably made for some interesting conversations behind the scenes as they were figuring out how to make something worth selling. Best of luck with the rest of your collecting! @@thepadawancollectorofficial

As a kid, I never understood why they didn't re-release the Death Star playset as Cloud City. Replace the trash compactor with the carbon freeze, redo the cardboard inserts, and make the turret area into the lightsaber duel area. I would have loved that as a kid. Hell I would have been happy with the flimsy cardboard version as a kid!

I have one that looks just like this. And I mean exactly like this. Box is a little rough, but still has edges, colors still good, never played with, figures still sealed in baggies. It was my late husband’s. I’m now selling his things and I know people have really tried to screw me on the price. I had a mint Blue Snaggletooth still in his baggie and box and people tried telling me it wasn’t worth anything and offered me a pittance for it. Doing my research I’m trying to sell Cloud City for $2500. Do you think that’s a fair price?
@thepadawancollectorofficial5 ай бұрын
I’ve seen examples go for that amount, it just depends on what it looks like and your description seems like it’s in very good condition, so baring the box taking the price down, I think you can list it for that much and someone would pay or make you an offer to negotiate a price
