The problem is, when you find figures like this, in shops, charity shops and car boots, is that the 'missing bits' are almost never with the figure. Which means you need to get two or three figures to make one 'good' figure. But the thing is, if you do this, you end up with one good figure rather than two or three damaged and incomplete figures that are highly likely to be simply thrown away (or kept in a box in the attic, never again to see the light of day). Which is why posts like this are so important to keep the legacy of such wonderful and well-loved toys alive! Great post Dave!

I've watched you for couple of years now so I try and guess which past methods you'll use to fix things before I watch the whole video. I figured you go with the Teflon tape and axel rod. I then thought you would use milliput to resculpt the missing leg. Great job as always. I thoroughly enjoyed watching.

I really like the way that arm went back on, Dave! My favorite bit in this particular video happens when you switch the rebel soldier head onto the Han figure. That bit of customizing looked great! I might have to try modifying some beater figures, as I like that look! A little primer and paint to a Hoth Han body, and you could make some interesting Rebel subdivision squadrons or patrols! It always makes my day to get to watch a new Toy Polloi video, so thank you once again! Cheers! PS: I wore one of my teespring Toy Polloi t-shirts while I was shopping at a very large and local role playing/gaming shop in town, and a fellow commented to me: "Toy Polloi! Awesome! I love that guy!" lol. I just thought that you'd like to know that you're creating more and more fans here in the U.S.!

Awesome as always. I was quite intrigued by the leg colour difference between the no-name Han and Hong Kong Han. Also keen for the clean up and painting of these figures.
@toypolloi5 жыл бұрын
The color differences are most likely just sun damage and age. But also some production differences in various factories. As these are beater figures I don't tend to do any paint repairs on them.

I think that the problem with the heads is that the vinyl of the head reacts with the acrylic of the body, and fuses the two plastics together over time, to the point where they cannot be separated, and the acrylic becomes brittle, and snaps if the head is turned.

Look at that Rebel Army! The Empire better be ready for them! I notice that there's only one lonely Leia though... seems to me that Leia's figures from the first 2 movies are much harder to get than the Luke's and Han's.
@toypolloi5 жыл бұрын
I don't have a like either yet in this army. Han seems the most common by far.
@CaptainArrrgh5 жыл бұрын
I think the heads come off so easily on the Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back figures because the part inside the neck usually has a mold edge that gets stuck. Somebody turning the head can't tell. All they know is the head isn't turning easily. They turn it a little harder, and it gives way.
@BlackieNuff5 жыл бұрын
My dad used to fix my SW figures who lost their heads and limbs by sawing off the head of bolts and screws and using them to reattach the parts. Of course some drilling was required for heads that have the peg/knob broken inside, or limbs that had their pegs broken clean off. I wonder if my dad would have found the LEGO approach any easier?

@toypolloi4 жыл бұрын
Check out my videos on boil and pop, or the Han Solo head swap video. That will show you how to do it. Cheers
@UnicronHound5 жыл бұрын
The reason it breaks is because of the coloring they used, it reacts funny and turns things brittle. Same thing happens more often with Gold/Metal like plastics. For example, the gold on Transformers' G1 Slog, and BW Transmetal Megatron. You look at them the wrong way, and they crumble.

@@toypolloi I see, I guess that partially has to do with the rising commercial value these days of the originals, & people not wanting to buy damaged goods that have been cleverly repaired to the point the repair isn't obvious on purchase. Have you thought about creating a small branding mark of some sort on the models you repair to indicate this state, perhaps the would remove the antagonism you've been met with a bit?

There are easier ways to build a figure. If you can crack the body open,you can replace the head peg on most figures. I have done that a few times,and they come out just fine. I would never use Lego pieces,I would only use real star wars parts. I would never sell something modified in the original vintage figures,unless it was branded as a custom figure. I had a broken headed Boba Fett once,and made a new neckline & added a jango fett head,and dremmeled out the original Fett head so it would be a removable helmeted Boba Fett. Instead of the tape you are using,you could always use apoxy to make the neck the way you want it. I recommend using the 2 part Apoxie Sculpt...
