I really like that the blurb on the back of the French editions of Star Wars is the french version of the opening title crawl. The novelization of the original Star Wars was ghostwritten by Alan Dean Foster, which is probably why he got the job for Splinter.

A very interesting video! Love the foreign versions of the movie adaptations. The Alan Arnold book about the making of TESB is also pricey these days 😎

Thanks buddy! Yes, might give that making of ESB a 'careful' read in a bit!🙂

"Strijd tussen de sterren", "Wraak uit het heelal" and "De terugkeer van de Jedi" are probably Dutch, or perhaps being published in Belgium, they might be Flemish. My mother tongue is Afrikaans, which is fairly close to both Dutch and Flemish. A wonderful collection!

Nice collection. Btw, yes, there was a novelization of AMERICAN GRAFFITI. It was called "The Complete American Graffiti Novel" and was published in 1979 to tie-in with the release of the sequel, MORE AMERICAN GRAFFITI, combining both films together in a single book.

I think George just put his name on Star Wars but it was actually ghost-written by someone else (Alan Dean Foster?) from the script. You're correct about the Empire version of Star Wars - it was a freebie with the magazine.

Yep, ADF wrote the original Star Wars novel👍

I believe that at the time the book club editions were the only hardback editions of the Star Wars novelisation available (other hardback editions have been released since). I have the British version but would very much like an American one like yours! The only thing available to the mass market was the paperback edition. I also have a UK first edition of the paperback, which is a lovely thing. The same is true of Splinter of the Mind's Eye, the only hardback edition being the book club edition. I have one but it's not in as good a condition as yours, sadly. The hardback I had the most trouble finding was also the least expensive - The Return Of The Jedi. A really tough one to find in hardback. If I recall correctly I ended up importing mine from the States. The real holy grails are the hardback editions of the first two Lando books (the third one was never released in hardback) which both had hardback book club editions which are almost impossible to find.

Thanks Ian, yes, I don't think I've ever seen the Lando books in hardcover. What's interesting, watching the video back, is that Splinter of the Minds Eye has no mention of Star Wars on the cover, incredible!

Regarding the vintage mass market pocket book format of the Marvel Comics adaptation of Empire Strikes Back, the first-run American edition is unique among ALL the subsequent republished formats of the adaptation because having gone to print early, it contains a visual representation of Yoda based directly on the Ralph Macquarie concept art as opposed to the one based on the more familiar film iteration of the character. You did not address this topic, but I would be curious to know which version of Yoda appears in your British edition of this adaptation. Also, FYI there was briefly published here in the United States a vintage mass market Star Wars comics pocket book consisting of reformatted colorized reprints of original short comic book stories that had initially been published exclusively in the United Kingdom as part of the serialized black-and-white magazine-format Star Wars comic series there. Unfortunately, I do not recall the precise title of this hard-to-find paperback book, and my copy is currently not accessible to me because it is in storage.

I'll check the Yoda illustration next time I've access to the books. I did film an update video on all my comic book paperbacks, included both the scarce extra Star Wars issues here kzbin.info/www/bejne/boC6e3iBp8SVqacsi=ruMi3QW4GC4UJQlC
