Vintage Table Saw Tune-Up With Saw Gauge 2.0 | Deep Dive

I ordered my Saw Gauge 2.0 2 weeks ago. Got it last week. I just did mine. Craftsman cabinet saw. I took the option of loosening my 4 bolts on the trunnion. Took many tries. One thing I noted was every time I locked it down I went about .001 out. So, I over adjusted by .001 and when I tightened it was perfect. Going to do the fence today.

I have been happy with my Saw Guage 1.0, while the 2.0 looks like a great improvement particularly for fence alignment. What seems to be missing is a reasonably priced upgrade kit for version 1 owners.

I love my WP tools and the saw gauge greatly improved my table saws cut finish. Best thing you can do for your table saw.

My father has the same saw. We built a ton of stuff with that saw on a homemade roller stand. Great video.

I was also told to mark a tooth on the saw blade and rotate the blade to make sure that any imperfections in the blade don’t affect the measurment

What am i missing .... why do you need the extension for the gauge.... why not just bring the fence closer to it once blade is down ?

The extension allows you to check the fence at multiple positions, verifying that the rail is straight. If you're confident the rail is straight, bringing the fence closer is perfectly fine. That's why we still sell both models...the original Saw Gauge has no extension, Saw Gauge 2.0 does.

The owner of Woodpecker's is Rich Hummell and he is a genius; if there ever was one. And this Saw Gauge is the best; because of the "triangle system" that Rich created; where the gauge rides in the miter slot in perfect alignment from end to end. That makes this saw gauge VERY accurate. Note: I do NOT work for woodpeckers or am a relative of any one of their employees. I simply love ALL the genius items that Woodpeckers have come out with over the last 40 yrs. They are the best. I only know of two other manufacturers that are as accurate "standard", and that is: Leighjigs and INCRA companies. If you haven't tried them, do it. You will not be unhappy with them. Note... I have one "beef" with this "Saw Gauge". And that is when using on a router table. YES it is perfect on a given setup. But if you have to move the fence, you may have to check it each time; because most router fences do NOT move parallel. INCRA's do, for what it's worth.

Ben thinking about making the fence dead-on parallel; to the miter slot easy; in quick time. Would it not be good if one milled a board that had dead-on parallel sides; and another dead-on board was put in the miter slot vertically. Then place the 1st board flat between the fence and the vertical board; then move the fence and 1st board to the board that is in the slot? I believe this would be really easy, quick and dead-on each time. IMHO, one could save the two boards and use them every time they need parallel, easily and very short time . What say ye? For what it's worth.

Any good tips for those of us who own a European style table saw with the sliding table to check if the sliding table is 90 degrees precisely to the blade?

A digital angle gauge works wonders. Not very expensive either. Small and easy to use on a lot of surfaces.

So, I over adjusted by 1thousand and when I tightened it was perfect. 3x3Woodworking has a video where she shows adjusting a contractor saw. Much easier. It would be major pain to show the adjustment on a cabinet saw.

Thought about including it in the video. But it is so different on every different brand and style of saw that I thought it might be more confusing than helpful.
