Best thing about the Wild One is it's looks. Really just like a full size dune buggy at the time! But, heh, I bought one as my first ever RC "buggy" before I visited the nearby RC Off Road Racing Club. Needless to say I broke my Wild One pretty quickly, and moved on to Kyosho Optimas etc. And I carried on racing for the next8 to 9 years. But you never forget your first RC car.
@DustyFingersRC2 ай бұрын
Did you pick up any of the Legendary series?
@wordreet2 ай бұрын
@@DustyFingersRC Sorry I don't know what that means, though I can kind of guess. Thing is, I got fully into racing at the end of the '80s. So I was buying buggies that could keep up with the other guys at the clubs, and Tamiya were never kept up there with cars like the Shumacher Cat or Kyosho Optima Mid, or Associated or Yokomo and a few others like X-Ray (seriously expensive). Heh, bought stuff raced and broke 'em. But No, not any Tamiya at that time. I did quit for a few years (wife etc). Had another go in the 2Ks, paused again and am now into Rc crawlers etc. I have approx 37 Rc cars in all right now, including an original Associated RC10. Oh and I do have a Sand Scorcher waiting in it's box for the last 2 years, and a Unimog. Hopefully they'll keep me occupied when I retire in about 4 years! Great fun!
@DustyFingersRC2 ай бұрын
@wordreet They re released the Optimas etc and called it the legendary series. Slightly modernised too for modern day electronics. I enjoyed reading your background in the hobby. I have never done racing other than in a home made track with some kids from school and that was Hornets, Hoppers etc. I have the Turbo Optima and Turbo Scorpion re releases. They are my first venture outside of Tamiya's. Great buggies. I live somewhere very flat with no rocks so crawling isn't much fun but I have found the mini crawlers to be fun. Trying to get my hands on some rocks to make a course. Well, I have made one course but it is small but still fun. I like the build so might do a ground up build next with so many after market parts it is cheaper that getting a SCX24 and upgrading it.

@@wordreet I also started with a Tamiya Wild One & raced it at a local R/C car club, did quite well, but then saved up and got an Optima Mid Custom Special..!!

I am working on a FAV video at the moment. Build is just about done and hope you get to see that one. Think I am going to add some weight up front as I am sure that will help.

I very recently baught myself a wild one re-release, I had the fast attack vehicle back in 2012 and absolutely adored it. Unfortunately I sold it because I couldn't afford to fix it. But now I have my wild one, and I would not change it for any other buggy on the market.

Thank you for the great video! Watching it reminds me of my first non-Tamiya RC, a Nikko Turbo Panther / Frame Buggy with that same cool push up to the top right stick shift full speed option. Watching the other boys from school I so wished I had a Tamiya or Kyosho too.

Hi Damian, what another fine video you have created here, I love the nostalgia in this one, it took me back, too! What a coincidence, I also had a Jet Hopper, my first real RC car! After that came the Monster Beetle so that is obviously my fave RC with the fondest memories. As you know I have the Wild One re-re and the Blockhead version. With a 3000mAh NiMh or one of those Zeee 4200mAh LiPo's (you showed the NiMh but the LiPo version is the same size or maybe a little smaller, I recently got a couple off Amazon) you can actually route the battery cable inside the chassis through that hole. Anyways, thanks for the very enjoyable video and wishing you a great weekend! 😎👌👍

Thanks for the feedback Mark. I will take a look at those batteries, appreciate that 👍🏻 This video isn't what I actually had planned to do but ended up this way naturally. My FAV video will be the one I had actually first thought of doing but that is yet to come. Many thanks always and your MB is a YT legend RC for me. 👍🏻

Awesome video! Love walking through the 80’s footage and the battery history. So many changes. I do miss my original hump pack that perfectly fit into many Tamiya cars including my original ORV Blackfoot. The Tyco Turbo Hopper was my first ever RC…loved it and but the time I’d finished with it the rear wheels were slicks. First ever “real” RC I ever saw was the fast attack and that got me exploring real RC cars and the Blackfoot was the result. Anyway..awesome vid!

Thanks , appreciate it 👍🏻 That Turbo Hopper, Jet Hopper, depending where you lived or what brand it was released under is quite sought after now.Good to hear from someone else who had one. Talking of tires, a guy on one of the FB groups is 3D printing them. Mine is long gone now.

Thanks, I appreciate it. I am still chilling out to your mini crawler videos. You do awesome stuff. Usually watch on the TV so don't comment much. You said you had a few negative comments on some vids and sorry to hear that as you do nothing but share the hobby and show a wide variety of cool content. I liked how that cracked paint job came out by the way 😉

Keep’em coming ;) a very nostalgic watch that. I love stories connected to why we are passionate about things. Your video really brought that home. You have a very nice vintage wild one and I’d leave it alone as it’s like that only once and the vintage body in box is a nice thing to have. ;) top job

Hey buddy, great video ! My first rc was a Nikko black fox, that had the mock turbo switch to ( what a let down lol ) I bought a FAV in lockdown had loads of fun with it, started to rebuild it last year, this video has got me keen and I’ve just ordered some bits for it to get it finished, the wild one is definitely superior to the fav, but I do like the military look 👍

A contemporary 7.2V hump pack will enable you to hide the wires and connectors in the chassis completely👍🏻 There’s lots on eBay and they have decent milliamp ratings (usually around 3300).

Hey a great well thought out video Damian. Bet it took an age to get all this together. Ha, drunk me 🤣😂🍺🍺 Very funny! The clock is in Back to the Future. I think I talked about using that same battery in the Wild One build video too. Visible battery wires are one of my pet hates so I always try to hide them as best as I can. That shorty pack also fits in the lunchbox and because the wires point up they are fairly hidden. Enjoy the re re kit. Like you say one of the best looking Tamiya RC's for sure and super fun handling. Best wishes mate 😁👍👍

First thing, glad you are still talking to me lol We both appreciate a real ale don't we. I was actually drinking some ale myself when I was slowing your video down so I could see how the wires disappeared so well for you, that was when inspiration hit. Full points for the clock and that being my favourite movie of all time being released the same year as the Wild One. 👍🏻 Video did take a long time and I didn't really plan it but it kind of evolved in to a bit of a story. The video I was actually going to make will be coming soon and hopefully less effort lol Thanks for watching and being so cool as always 👍🏻 P.S. great information on the battery added in your comment, that is great to know.

Fantastic work as always, and now you're making me want one again (I never had one). I really wanted one when the Blockhead version was out, but even though I like those colours, it's the original I want. And at that time you couldn't get them, or I would have got the kit. I think they've re-released them again now, though... 😬

Thanks, appreciate it. I got a load of parts over the years so I think I can build 2 more, one is almost done (FAV) and I have the re re Wild One as I agree with you, that looks better than the Blockhead version. I actually had the BH but sold it as when they brought out the HS2 in the same colour that killed it for me. Got a bit sick of seeing it.

What a nice story, Damian! I don't remember the Wild One, but I do remember a friend of mine had an FAV, and I was so impressed with it. I even remember to this day, it was the aluminium parts that made it look and feel so professional to me. I had a Striker, all plastic, and to me the FAV was such a premium kit. You took good care of that old buggy, looks nice. So you got a new one for running?
