In the 60's there were 'painting parties' like Tupperware parties where you would go to buy fabric paint in tubes, and instead of doing the actual embroidery, you would 'paint' with the paint tubes and let it dry on your pillowcases, table cloths and other linens. They sold the linens and the paints and you learned how to do it at the 'parties'. I was a kid, but I remember my mom having the parties and I was fascinated by it and wanted to participate.

The pillow cases that are not "sewn" (embroidered) were painted by hand with fabric paint (especially the one at 4:39) -- I used to do that in the 70's. The paint had a ball-point-pen-like nib that you used to follow the printed lines from the manufacturer. It was a lot faster and easier than embroidery -- but still let you decorate your pillow cases. LOL Yes, your commenters are correct -- it was called Liquid Embroidery. It appears from doing a search that they may still manufacture that product! Also.... really like the Precious Moments Nativity from the 80's.

The liquid embroidery that was used in the 60's was "Artex" paints. Came in tubes.

Jeffrey the "sceen print" that looked faded was supoose to be painted! The brighter one was painted. My mother had some like those she painted with a tube type of paint for fabric! Course this was in the 60's.

Hello Jeffrey, You got some good finds in this treasure hunt. I enjoy your old, and new ones as I'm trying to catchup. I've left comments before, and I haven't got any heart, or any response back from you as a new subscriber that's a bummer. I guess you're busy?!. Oh well such is life. I hope that you are having a good day. Blessings to you.

You might want to consider listing the Aladdin music box “for parts” - if someone has one that also has damage, they might want this one to use for spare parts. I have an identical crystal basket - so pretty. If you flick it with your fingernail and it rings, it’s crystal. Glass will make a flat sound when flicked.

It might be a painted cross stick pattern? If so, those can be valuable... Have you tried adding "painted sewing pattern" to your keywords?

The Precious Moments set is the Nativity with Joseph, Mary and Baby Jesus, a shepherd and the camel and the little bunnies, I am not sure how this set was put together. Maybe had more pieces. Jonathan and David was how the company was called before the were produced be Enesco. This set could be one of the originals. I noticed that there was a fish sign on the bottom of the camel and that is a year stamp. Used to help date it. I collected PM for years so I know these things about them.

Yes, My grandma did that too. The tubes were paint with a tiny metal ball at the tip. She gave me some and I had fun painting pillowcases with them. You would buy linens with a very fine pattern on them. Thanks for reminding me of this, I haven't thought of it in years. Great memories.

Yay for your memory finally kicking in! I was screaming at the video, "Precious Moments!!!" Those are shepherds, and with the camel and Baby Jesus are part of a nativity set. I remember those folding fans from my 1960s childhood, but the box looks 1950s. The other fan is so pretty too. And I love the sheets and towels you find! Flashback for me.

Back in the 70's we had a set of tube roller ball paints that were used to go over the embroidery pattern instead of stitching. it will hold up in the wash.
