They had tube HV rectifiers in their B&W portables until at least 1964...The newest Sony B&W portable I have is from that year and has them too.

I'd take it that this was a voltage doubling arrangement. I'd expect it to allow for a more economical (and physically smaller) flyback transformer that can generate a smaller AC voltage than it otherwise would.

@@SeekingTheLoveThatGodMeans7648 I believe it is a doubler arrangement. It's been years since I looked at a schematic for these. But there's a fair chance at somepoint I'll do a video on restoring it and dive into the schematic.

Yeah...I was expecting a hoard of sets (was sent pictures by the person who got me in contact with the owner) but didn't know about or expect the Dumont.... Didn't expect it would be priced cheap enough for me either.

How many vintage TVs can you get in the back of a Chevy Suburban, that is the question. Only downside to getting stuff like this, if one has a significant other hopefully they don't mind this hobby.
