Totally addicted to old adverts. Amazing that I remember so many. Who says advertising doesn't work etc..

Another great collection, it's amazing how technology has come on in such a short space of time! Thanks again Steve.👍🏻😊

Thanks for this Steve. The technology ones are my favourite. It's fun to see how archaic the tech was, while knowing full well that in 40 years time, ours will be regarded the same way.

Nice to have a record of old tech in ad form.

"Simply Palm" - his prospects for the night after missing that opportunity. Some of these ads ring a bell, many others depict an age when I was rarely at home. Unfortunately for kids today they'll never experience the like but the Oracle text service was practically an infinite research and entertainment resource at your fingertips.

I remember being fascinated by teletext and wondered how it all worked. Only ever got to play with it on other people's tellies though - we never had a set that could display it, sadly.

Had to skip back on the Carphone Warehouse one to see if I knew "Lisa, Milton Keynes"! 😂 I bought a Toshiba DVD player in 1999, it was rubbish, kept freezing up. Had a nightmare trying to return it to Curry's. Bought the first portable player from Panasonic. Worked for years until I lent it to a friend. When I got it back it wasn't working anymore. I still have it. Keep thinking about sending it to Stez Stix Fix, see if Steve can fix it for me!

My first and pretty much only DVD player was a Playstation 2, and the "lend to a friend" thing? I feel your pain on that one. 😑

Do you remember 2 car Ads from the early 1990's.1 was for The AA as I was an AA Patrolman and hear it a dozen times a day. He's a very very nice man. and the other I'm sure was for Haynes manuals , the gag line was either ,You managed to fix it and save on all these bits..It could be me getting old
@ModelsExInferis3 ай бұрын
Those of us who fix our own cars refer to Haynes manuals as "The Oracle" as there's very little you can't look up in one. I've had one for each of my cars and I wouldn't be without one, worth their weight in gold!

My Friday depression has been cured now you have uploaded your Friday compilation Steve. I had an on digital box, think it was £100 a year and you nearly always had to get a new ariel. Even after that the signal still broke up!

Sounds terrible. I do remember the big digital push. I think we just bought a standard freeview digibox for our telly and plugged the normal aerial into it. Worked a treat.

I once bought an old on digital box from Cash Converters for about £40 to take advantage of using the card slot for TopUp TV, I can't imagine why that failed also with UK Gold only available between 5pm & 11pm?? 🤔🤭

Carphone Warehouse is now part of Currys so people can now get a mobile phone with Hi-Fi. The Ferguson TV advert is channelling the Twilight Zone.

So did BT have a full-on marketing tie-in with Universal Pictures, then? That must have cost a pretty tidy packet. Probably an even bigger budget than to get Maureen Lipman! 🤣
