great video. I had a vintage Omega Seamaster that I bought from a dishonest watch seller in eastern Canada. I washed the dishes and the whole watch fogged up. he told me the watch had been completely oiled, serviced and all the gaskets changed. he also told me the watch was 100% original and was water tested to be water resistant to 100 meters I knew he was lying when he said he water tested the watch to 100 meters. a 1962 Omega Seamaster is NOT waterproof, but I thought I could wash the dishes. I never got the watch wet but the steam got inside I took it to my regular watchmaker and he opened the watch. it turns out the watch had the wrong gaskets in it and they were all dried up, the watch was completely dry and never serviced, and the crown was the wrong part for that year I ended up returning the watch but not without a lot of name calling and accusations on his part. I later found him on several watch forums where other people had nightmare experiences with their purchases as well. seems he had so many complaints that he was copying and pasting his answers to everyone because there were so many. that's why the font size and style kept changing in all his emails. he's banned on all watch forums the only watch that has never given me any problems and I can trust taking a shower or washing the dishes is Rolex. I don't trust anything else anywhere near water. especially if it doesn't have a screw down crown and back

I'm sorry you had to go through this experience.... but thank you for sharing this story with us here. I think that many who read your comment will be even more attentive and vigilant the next time they buy. Unfortunately, there are many dealers like this, and there will be many in the future who are out to make a quick profit. As the saying goes, "buy the dealer, not the watch"... as mentioned in the video, all vintage watches declared water resistant that are in top condition CAN be water resistant. I've gotten messages that even customers have gone swimming with a vintage Seamaster. However, we tend to be on the team - better safe than sorry - and take our watches off beforehand for all activities such as cooking. BUT nothing should happen when washing hands though! Thanks again for sharing!

Again, a superlative video. I am getting a ton of complements on the Jaeger LeCoultre creamy dial dress watch from the forties.

I swim with my vintage watches. See my latest video how I swim with a vintage watch in Miami Beach. If your watchmaker replaces all rubber gaskets and pressure tests your watch then go ahead and swim with it!

It’s up to you, i would never go swim with my vintage watches . But like i said in the vid, there is no right or wrong :D I’ll check your vid tomorrow , cheers!!

Steam and cooking, alongside perspiration. I must remember that. I have an Atlantic with gaps between case and caseback.

Wintage watches? Did I made some writing mistakes? 😅😂

That's the big lie, or false atvertisment - 5atm is a clearly defined physical pressure. A movement doesn't affect the result much. 5atm mark should be good for withstanding 5atm pressure.

can a vintage datejust 36 mm 1969 year if serviced can still be made water resistant ?
@GoldammerVintageWatches Жыл бұрын
Yes it can, but special attention must be paid to the replacement of suitable sealing rings and in addition a pressure test should be carried out. But somehow I would still be afraid to go into the water with it... But theoretically nothing should happen then :)

I've got a 1970 Fortis Marinemaster Supercompressor with a 200M rating on the dial and even though I've had it serviced and all o-rings replaced, it's not going anywhere near water. I've got cheap G-shocks for that sort of thing.
@GoldammerVintageWatches2 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't take the risk either. Even if the watch would most likely remain resistant ( not to forget the impact of salt water). I think to have a bunch a cheaper pieces is a good solution.

Just take the watch to a watchmaker and ask to check the water resistance. He will tell you what you can do.

Nowadays, unfortunately, being a watchmaker does not automatically mean that they are also good with old watches. In our city, for example, there are 6 different watchmakers and there is only one that we trust for SMALL, quick repairs. So here too, just because someone wears a white coat doesn't mean he's a good doctor ;)

@@GoldammerVintageWatches here in Brazil is the same! Good watchmakers are an endangered species 😅. I believe that in the future this reality will change, as the interest in mechanical and vintage watches has increased in the last few years.
