As a youngster I had the great good fortune of listening to this very khayal live from Ustadji...it proved to be such a spiritually uplifting experience for me that giving up all fears/ reservations, I went backstage to touch his feet. ... but what is remarkable is the way he stopped me half way with an half embarrassed grin and embraced me instead!! ...What a giant of a genius he was, so dignified, so restrained and refined.... I have ever been so blessed by his benedictions

Don't agree at all 😅 I have heard so many great yaman kalyans till now on KZbin(especially starting around pre pandemic time). Some that straight away come to mind are specific recordings by pt. Kumar Gandharva, pt. Bhimsen Ji, pt. jayateerth mevundi, Abhishek raghuram, ust. Rashid Khan and a few more so no need to praise any particular great artist on the expense of other great artists that too so outrageously lol. Everyone have got their unique styles.

People who have disliked the video are also great in their own opinion because some neha kakar fans have even just wished the hear a LEGENDARY and God like personality and got some blessing to get a good pure ears . Because it takes few minutes to hear to some new brand songs but it takes years to develop a ear for hearing a God and his pure music.😊👍

There is a saying.."an excellent singer is judged by the way he sings a vilambit"..same goes for listeners..if you can't listen to a vilambit properly then you are not a good listener of Indian classical music. Everything that a raga is capable of delivering, inherently lies in the vilambit composition. Close your eyes and listen to this yaman kalyan. I have heard many versions of yaman kalyan from many Ustads, but this is matchless. Ustad rahid Khan's yaman kalyan come close to this, but innocence of Khan sahib's voice is something, that you can't learn or copy.

Thx Sir, in stories heard only about one another singer with this meditative mood is Great Abdul Karim Khan Sahib, but not lucky to hear to enjoy, if anyone have the recording of Ustad Abdul Karim saheb's 40-50 minutes recordings and kind enough to share with this generation, all music lovers would be indebted, another one is Ustaad Faiyaz Khan sahib but probably no good quality recording of his singing available

Keeping track of aavartans is a secondary goal here. The rhythm primarily serves to provide the artist sufficient space to express himself. He needs to be unfettered in his work. The vilambit jhoomra is the perfect vehicle for amir khan sahab's imagination.

I just heard this and concur with Parthapratim's estimate that this was early 70s I couldn't help laughing at his acerbic comment on people who dozed during Khan Sahab's vilambit. Actually, AK's music was largely cerebral-- he never sang for the audience, which was incidental. It took me time ( as I matured,musically) to come to grips with and marvel, open mouthed,at AK's genius --- I recall a remarkable instance when Gyan Babu, who occasionally accompanied him on the harmonium, dramatically threw up his hands and closed his instrument when AK was weaving the most mind boggling sur patterns in a recital of Basant Bahar

@SDD41 It's true what he's said,Even Dr Mansurj used to say "while starting to sing any Raga I would concentrate on that Raga, not at audience, that is how I used to pay respects in my own way" I have not missed his programs even when he was founder HoD in PG dept ofUG/PG at Karnataka Univ Dharwad,I's fortunate havin attended at his last rites
@suranjanghosh94103 жыл бұрын
As you have pointed out, this "cerebral" part of Khan sahib's treatment of ragas is mentioned by Pt. Gnan Prokash Ghosh in his memoir : ' Tehzeeb-e-mausiki'.

You can wait all you want, but that rendition of the Chota Khyaal is inimitable. The precision in the taans is wonderful. There are some things you just can't teach. The inventor of the Indore Gharana; he who effortlessly combined the Bhol-Alaap of Ati-Vilambit Bada Khyaal-s with Drupad Chota-Khyaal-s.

as you rightly said one becomes more matured listening regularly and develop analytical skills and then real enjoyment comes when one listens to vilambit which elaborates raag, then one starts appreciating Dhruad style.

I wonder if there is an artist of the calibre of Ustad Amir Khan who is in the musical circuit. This music is an ultimate one for not only its technical soundness but the very purpose of Music,which is communion with the Almighty, is shown by the way the Ustad intonates each note and connects it to the next. It is a perfect search and meditating on the swaras of the mortal soul to seek the Almighty. An aural beauty in musical expression. There was never an artist like this Ustad and can never be as times have changed towards faster pace.

This is a late sixties or early seventies performance, by no means 50s. However there always are some morons who fall asleep during the vilambit - though Khan Sahib's Vistaar was always gamak and taan-kartab based.
