I was 6 years old during this World Cup. Just remembering my Dad celebrating each goal as if he was from Brazil really showed his passion for Brazilian Football. We’re Salvadorean so we support our Latino Brothers so my Dad was always supportive for Argentina and or Brazil since they were and still are the top dogs in South American football. Eu tinha 10 anos nessa época e foi uma manhã de muita comemoração. Nessa época a união que era ver a seleção jogar era sem palavras. Sem contar as ruas pintadas e enfeitadas com bandeirinhas. Damn, I remember seeing this World Cup as a kid, and even going to crazy lengths to collect every card and sticker for the World Cup Japan album. Seeing this from Venezuela, and obviously rooting for our brothers in Brazil was monumental. I remember Ronaldo being a revered as a literal Titan amongst mortals, with Ronaldinho, and Rivaldo being legends amongst him. Even our home town exploded with Brazil’s win. I was awe struck and fascinated as a kid since it was my first world cup. Seeing this again as an adult I’m re-living all the excitement and I can see why. Every single play was, and is pure art and completely timeless. The intelligence and synchronicity between players is intuitive and natural, and it reminds me that sports like these are just a reflection of the incredible potential of human beings to do the unthinkable.

Increible la diferencia que era el futbol de antes, tenía más errores, pero no sabemos explicar como era más lindo, más humano y todo habia un sentimento. Los brasileros jugaban enserios, nada de sambas, nada de provocar, sabian jugar y sabian ganarla, increible, vaya selección historica. Con mi selección senti el sabor de celebrar una copa en 2010, pero antes de todo, desfruté con Brasil, vaya par de cracks, como era lindo verlos jugar. Os momentos óbvios de genialidade são sempre lembrados por todos, principalmente os gols. Mas eu admiro muito alguns detalhes sutis que demonstram o quão refinados esses caras eram. Aos 6:13, o ronaldo acaba de sair de uma dividida dura, totalmente desequilibrado, e no mesmo momento que ele gira o corpo enquanto tenta se reequilibrar, ele dá dois toques muito rápidos na bola. Um com o lado externo do pé jogando a bola pra direita, e praticamente sem tirar o pé de apoio do chão, ele já emenda com outro toque com a parte interna pra dar o passe no sentido oposto ao do primeiro toque, quase como um elástico, quebrando por um segundo a postura do marcador mais próximo e deixando o Rivaldo totalmente confortável pra dar o chute, que foi onde começou o gol. Isso é pura arte.

He took the ball from a German player, passed it to Rivaldo, made run and space, knew that Rivaldo will have a nice shot and continued to the keeper to wait the bounce of the keeper. One of the best strikers ever, but not only strikers, he was the real Ronaldo, the O Fenomeno... Always get the goosebumps when I watch his goals, skills and footballing vision.
