Hi Robert, i just removed the dial glass assembly from an old 2220 B, that had a very rough life, as part of a full restoration process. I pretty much did it the same way AH fixit does it in one of his videos, using 2 small flat head screwdrivers and a thin blade cutting knife. It is more firmly glued on, that what it seems to be in the video, he must have removed it once, before actually doing it on camera, but with patience and gentle movements using both hands spread appart to apply even pulling force it's quite doable. In my case as probably for everybody diving into any kind of restoration of the old Marantzs a re-lamping was mandatory but perhaps most importantly the velum paper needed to be replaced as well. I'm actually waiting for heavy 50lb white velum paper to come in today and also following AH fixit's recommendation i ordered some Aleene's tacky glue. I know this glue will be perfect for gluing the new velum paper on the plate, but i'm not sure if i'll also be using it to re-glue the glass plate back in place, will have to test before. I must point out that once carefully removing the remnants of the paper from the glass, there will be some residual glue, i first thought i would remove it completely using some kind of solvent (i always found that fluid lighter was just about the only thing capable of dissolving rubber based glue) but in this case any solvent will damage the paint or thin it to the point it will let light through so it's better in my opinion to remove most of it with your fingernail and live with some glue left on, which will be covered by the new paper and not be visible once the plate is re installed. But in your case since you're going to put a new one in, you won't have to worry about residual glue. Good luck with your restoration. Message to Aaron, great great work sir the end result is just awesome, but and i'll be very very honest here, 159$ is way to expensive, i mean i can understand spending that kind of money on a high end model, but paying that much for a low end model faceplate makes no sense, the value of a 2200 or even a 2220 B can't justify the investment in my opinion. I discussed this with the owner of the 2220 B i'm working on at the moment and i got a hard no. Honestly i can't imagine any of my clients going for it in the future, but your product is beautiful. Thank's for sharing, be well.
