The captain action figure shown in this commercial was my dads favorite action figure while growing up.

This is the coolest toy ever. It's also the second Superman action figure ever, and the very first Batman/Aquaman/Spider-Man action figure (and if you count Action Boy, the first Robin, Aqualad and Superboy) ever produced.

Best Toy concept ever devised. 1966 Christmas was the day 😁

The 'Ideal' action figure, for kids that still used their own imaginations when playing. Sure do miss those days. I prefered Capt. Action to my G.I. Joe figures, only because the hands were more realist, and useful than Original Joe's were. Had the Lone Ranger, and Phantom costumes, but prefered having him lead the Joe's in Army green.

Thanks for posting- I never had a Capt Action ( was into GI Joe ) but seeing this brought back nice memories from my childhood.

Just picked up the Playing Mantis repro of Captain Action. Very cool toy. Planning on grabbing the Round 2 C.A. Spider-Man outfit for him at some point & also on getting a 12 inch Mego-Style Batman from Figures Toy Company & giving his suit to my C.A.

I loved this toy. It was my favorite. I had the batman, superman and lone ranger outfits. Back then I think my Captain action cost like a few dollars in 1966,

Was the commercial originally in B&W or is a B&W print all that survives? Could have gone either way in 1966 though the earlier GIJoe commercials were in color.

I remember Captain Action even having his own comic book, courtesy of DC Comics. But the Captain failed to gain any real following and faded from the scene within two years.

@endofsomething: Hahah, funny, but I doubt it all of those things listed were actually DC comics at one point so I'm sure this was probably a licensing thing they brought up. And I checked on wikipedia and indeed it was a licensed product, although that was my first thought too! :)

I had a captain action when I was 7 or 8 years old. I loved the fact that you could dress him up as other action figures, but I also remember their arms and legs easily falling apart. The G.I. Joe was made much better, and lasted much longer. That's probably why captain action faded away by the mid 70's

I liked him better than my G.I. Joe's. Made in better detail and more flexible. Joe couldn't get into a fully seated position when driving his jeep is an example.
