Good Ideas. One thing I especially like is you are not wasteful using your inks. Watching other DIY Video's some of these Artist just dump wasteful amounts of product only to wipe away off their mats and dispose of. I'm not rich and Inks, Paints ect are expensive. You can always add more as you need it.

This video is just what I needed, I paint on metal jewelry (mostly bracelets) using Vintaj patina paints and have perfected my system, I have been wanting to expand to leather but wasn't sure about the paint adhering to it. I paint scenery as well as designs. My question is: in places where the paint builds up will it have the tendency to peel off of the leather? Should I use the V. glaze over it due to extra hard wear of the bracelets?

Hi Rhea, glad this is technique has inspired you! It could be possible if the patina is applied too thick in areas it can be easier to peel off. I would suggest brushing on a thin coat of glaze to seal it. Have fun creating!!

So fabulous! Do you know how this will wear/what about sealing? I've been wanting to do this type of thing but wasn't sure what to use. Thank you!! Sounds like you're having a blast with it! -Brenda

Thank You Brenda!! The patina is permanent so it wears pretty well. Over time it may look a little more distressed but the patina will not come off. We do have a Glaze and Matte Glaze patina sealer + extender that can be applied, however I did not do that on any of my leather pieces. I rarely seal metal after applying patina. Hope this helps! Jess :)

Few questions! Is it waterproof? Do you need to prep the leather in some way before you start? Does it need to be sealed? Wasn't mentioned in the video so just checking.
@vintajnaturalbrassco
@vintajnaturalbrassco 7 жыл бұрын
Hi Emily! The patinas are permanent + waterproof. You can clean your paint brush with water to remove the patina, however once it is applied to surfaces it is permanent. The leather does not need to be prepped before hand, unless it is dirty, you can simply wipe it clean with a damp cloth and allow to dry before painting. The patinas do not need to be sealed, however you can for added durability. You can use a thin layer of our Vintaj Glaze or Matte Glaze, or wipe on a small amount of Renaissance Wax. Our Patinas work beautifully on a variety of surfaces in addition to leather, such as metal, glass, wood, clay, fabric, paper, burlap and so much more! Have fun!!

Keep in mind that they are fast drying so it is best to work in small sections when blending colors...

Lovin' these cuffs 😀 I do have a question though : I've been trying to use your patinas on leather with no success. I tried to paint two small dashes(basically tiny lines) on a leather cord but even the next day I could easily remove them with my nails. I didn't use the sealer, although I have some because the patina is supposed to be permanent. Can you please help me with some tips? Thanks very much
@vintajnaturalbrassco
@vintajnaturalbrassco 7 жыл бұрын
Hello! I apologize for the delay. I'm assuming the leather cord may have been a smoother surface compared to the leather cuffs that I was using. The Patinas work great on textured or rougher surfaces, the leather cuff in the video has held up very well. You can use the Glaze as a sealer if you'd like. You can also try to add a little "tooth" to the surface using our Metal Reliefing Block before applying the patina. Hope that helps!

Do you clean the leather with anything before you paint it?
@vintajnaturalbrassco

Hi Kevin, I didn't clean the leather other than just wiping the surface off with my hand to remove any dust or fibers from other materials I had it stored with.

what surface paper do you work on when working with your patinas?
@vintajnaturalbrassco
@vintajnaturalbrassco 8 жыл бұрын
I work on a Ranger Ink Non-Stick Craft Sheet. This reusable, protective sheet is the answer to all of your craft surface needs. Nothing sticks to it! Clean-up is quick and easy, ready to use again and again. You can find them on the Ranger Ink site - rangerink.com/?product=non-stick-craft-sheet%E2%84%A2, at Hobby Lobby and other craft stores, and we will be adding them to our website very soon. You can also use Wax Paper and just dispose of it after each project. Hope this helps! :)

hi! could this be done with chalk paint??
@vintajnaturalbrassco
@vintajnaturalbrassco 7 жыл бұрын
Hello! I personally haven't used chalk paint on leather, but you can give it a try. It would need to be sealed with something like the wax used to seal chalk paint when applied to furniture possibly. Our patinas are permanent and colors can be blended to create your own palette which is fun to use on a variety of surfaces.
