Ed more than likely did a 1 year, one-pay lease. The amount of upfront rebate money on the RS e-tron GT for a lease is $32,500. The one-pay lease component buys down the money factor. The residual value after 1 year (assuming 7,500 miles) and with the addition of Audi Care is 70%. When you discount the car heavily, and apply all rebates/incentives, you get a one-pay lease amount of around $3,000-$5,000 for the entire year (including tax/license fees). When he quotes a $250/month lease he is simply dividing the one-pay lease amount by 12 months to give an example of what his cost would be per month. There’s a little more to it, but everyone should now get the picture.

Even this doesn’t make any sense. Unless it’s an overly inflated residual even above your estimated 70%, there is no way you’re paying $250/mo for a $150,000 car. Listen, pretend I’m stupid because there’s a chance I am and don’t understand this bs scheme lease this friend of his worked out and type out all the numbers on an example lease summary because without those numbers in front of me, the math just doesn’t add up. TLDR… “Show your work.” Let’s see it. Lol (Edit) OK, never mind. What Ed forgot to mention is that HE MOST DEFINITELY traded in his wife’s AMG to get this deal. Without ~$25k of trade-in value, you’d be paying about a grand a month for the lease. With the trade-in, it’s in the $260 a month range. 🙄

We rented a 'regular' eTron on a trip a while back. The adaptive cruise control in the Audi is nothing short of brilliant. You just have to dig around in the menus a little bit, and you'll find that you can set an 'offset' from the posted speed limit. I set it to +5. So, we'd be cruising along doing 50 in a 45, come up on a section posted 35, and the Audi would see the speed sign - display the sign in the gauge cluster, then... ...automatically slow to 40 in a 35... When the limit went back to 45, it would *automatically* speed back up from 40 to 50. The ACC in our Volvo recognizes the speed signs, but doesn't actually DO anything about it, other than flash the sign in the gauge cluster... Audi can actually keep you at your typical "five over" speed 100% of the time.

The monthly leasing cost of an EV is a sucker bet. My wife’s 2024 Audi Q8 eTron costs $3400 a year to insure and she is rated a “good driver” by the insurance company. My Ferrari Speciale costs $4500 a year to insure and I have a $525K guaranteed value policy. An EV is a disposable car and the insurance value will kill you. Don’t be fooled by the “good deals” on EVs.

Shop around for insurance, I know ppl are are paying under $150 a month for a Tesla model S plaid for insurance , and model 3 are around $100 a month , same as a Honda civic . Depending on how insurance work in your market , is extremely rare for a Tesla or most EV to be involved in a at fault accident .and with the camera coverage a Tesla , insurance tend to pay out less since they could just go after the other party's insurance to get their money back .

1000 miles range plus a charging infrastructure similar to gas stations and the ability to charge the vehicle in 10 minutes or less. Until those three things are in place, plus reasonable prices, I just can’t see the majority of Americans going to all electric vehicles.

Gas powered cars don’t get 1000 miles on a tank. Most don’t get even half that. I’m lucky to see 400 in my economical Audi A3.

@@pjbuma13 You are right, gas cars don’t get 1000 mile range, but you can refuel in 5-10 minutes. I guess I should have said 1000 mile range, or the ability to charge fully in 5-10 minutes. I believe we will get there, I just hope we get there soon. I’m 100 percent behind electric vehicles. If I could afford one, I’d buy one now. Hopefully prices will come down soon. The price of all vehicles have risen to the point where a lot of people just can’t afford to buy a new car anymore. I guess I should have been a little more clear in my original comment.

@@mattculbertson3654 I think EVs are fine. I don’t t have much desire to own one and I definitely don’t think they are the future that people are pushing for. That being said I think the Audi RS E tron GT and the Porsche Taycan are pretty cool. And as far as practicality I agree, either 700-1000 miles range or 400-500 miles and full charging in under 15 mins. I think less than 15 reasonable. Anything more than that is pretty inconvenient.

And in reality you still drive like 50 miles per day. 😂 So good to be paying for that 20x range all the time. Fast charging is a must of course.
