I was driving on a urban 2 way street in winnipeg manitoba during mid winter, ice on the roads like a skating rink of course. Mind you im no slack driver and I was doing at least 35 mph when I hear an abrupt honking. Obviously I didn't recall a vehicle behind or in my general area as of that moment, as I snap my head left to shoulder check this vehicle. That has somehow come so fast behind me and is now passing me on a urban oncoming street, I look to stare the driver in the eyes whom was at the time of passing me had one hand on some sort of bottle and another lighting a cigerette. This man had passed me with the tail end kicking about driving with his knees. doing easily 45 to 50 mph with his knees on a literal skating rink in what appeared to be a triton v8 powered f150 with body panels held together by rust and luck. I wasn't sure how to react? respect it, be furious? Well I continued on with my day. Still wait to see him again. Will I? Thats left to be said.

The best cab rides were in San Francisco. The hills, the turns. Sometimes you would catch a little air off a hill. You were almost always guaranteed some tire squeal at least. The crown vics were great town car cabs for SF. Glad I got to experience that before ride sharing apps. When all it took was a loud whistle and a wave off your hand to get a ride. Good times! 😂
@deejayyy16813 жыл бұрын
I did Uber in SF for a short min and got complaints for driving like an old cabbie thru there 🤣🤣
@mattmayo35393 жыл бұрын
@@deejayyy1681 I think it was the driver not giving a damn about the car that really added to the experience. I’ve been in the back seat of a crown Vic where the rev limiter was chirping, the car easily having well over a quarter of a million miles. Something about the danger added to the thrill. Also cabs are license chauffeurs. In California, if you had a regular cab driver he would legally be allowed to let you drink alcoholic beverages.

About 8 years back, I took my friend and one of ours to San Francisco, and they had never been. We were in Union Square and had to get to Pier. 39 for the ferry, but we had only 19 minutes. Flagged a cab, literally pulled out a twenty and told the guy “ do what you gotta to get us here”. We got there in 14. My friends won’t get in a cab again though. We were in high school too!

I wish KZbin was around in the 80's when we paid Jeepney drivers in the Philippines and cabbies in Korea to to be the first to our destinations! The Jeepney races we commissioned in rural Philippines were by far the scariest moments of my life. The Korean drivers and their white gloves were like professional NASCAR drivers in traffic, the Jeepney drivers were bananas! For $20 bucks they'd try anything in those vehicles.
