So many fond Dream Cruise memories. I remember rolling up to a stop light with my buddy in his IROC Z28 to my left. When the light turned green we floored it only to hear all hell break loose to my right. Old dude in a Ford Ranger was up on two wheels with NOS blasting. He had the biggest grin in the world as he blew past us. Dream Cruise is a must on any car guy or girl's bucket list. Thanks for the memories Steve!

Kids today don't "cruise", back in the late 70's and 80's, cruising friday night was the thing to do, you went to see the cars and socialize. Getting out of a DUI has got to be the ultimate, when you grow up in a tiny rural Oregon town in the middle of no where, and there's nothing else to do, you'd cruise around the valley, drinking a few beers. Got stopped one night, three of us in the truck, we all knew the cop and he knew us, asked us if we were drinking, Rusty told him yup we're, you want one. Chuck the cop, said ya I'll have one, stood there at the truck talking for 10 minutes and drank a beer with us, told us to be careful and to go home! Rusty the one who was driving asked him why you drank a beer with us and letting us go, Chuck said because he'd observed us for 10 minutes and seen that we were not "drunk", and if word got out he'd drank a beer with us we'd all be getting tickets from then on!

I got out of a ticket and got to "play" with a cop. I was going up highway 58 over Willamette Pass in Oregon heading east, it was about 3 AM and zero traffic, so I was cruising at a pretty good clip in my 78 Datsun pickup that has a built Buick V6 and overdrive trans in it, it's got aftermarket front/rear anti sway bars, and handles more like a sports car than an old truck on twisty mountains. It's a highway cruiser, passes about everything. I came upon a car and was following it waiting for a passing lane, it was going quite a bit faster than the speed limit and I was having fun following it. My Datsun was keeping up with it, I couldn't tell exactly what kind of car it was, and at passing lanes they wouldn't move over and let me pass and actually sped up some. They did this a couple of times, so when the next passing lane came up I run up on their ass ready to pass, when red and blue lights came on in the rear window! It was an unmarked police car! He slowly pulled over with his lights on and I followed and pulled over behind him. He came back and the first question was... What the hell are you driving! As he looked at my Datsun with a puzzled look, he kind of mumbled... how the hell are you keeping up with me in that thing!? He said he tried to shake me and couldn't do it, and he didn't want to let me pass him. I laughed back and explained it had a built Buick v6 in it, he kind of laughed, we talked for a few minutes, he said he could but wouldn't give me a ticket, told me to slow it down, and don't try passing Sheriffs anymore! My speedo doesn't work in my Datsun but it's a good guess we were running 85 mph when the Sheriff wouldn't let me pass him, I think one reason I didn't get a ticket was he was "racing" with me, how often do you get to "play" with a cop like that and not get a ticket, only once! ;)
@dustinwoodward6143 жыл бұрын
I have to wonder how they made a reckless driving ticket stick when the definition is "likely to cause or did cause how to another person or property" while at the same day having hundreds of burn out tickets with no injuries. Set a percentage for what likely is and prove via simple math of tickets vs injuries that burnouts on Woodward Ave. Are not likely to cause harm.
