Absorbing, rather than consuming. Today, on my french stream, a wanna be audiophile talked about the pleasure of spending, a lovely debate ensued

Glad we finally connected in flesh at the fair… I *ALMOST* picked up that McIntyre but karma told me otherwise ;-) It’s cool George gifted you that Abdul-Malik - happy 10 at AMR! Love the sound of Ghost Trees, will seek. Tony Scott I just got into, underrated for sure. So many gems on MPS. Ali & Lowe.. man, big score. Dom. I love seeing that John Tchicai album, MPS put out so many beautiful recordings. Tchicai played on a John and Yoko album, he claimed that he never got paid, someone just gave him a copy of the album. God bless Frank Lowe for playing with Rashied Ali in a duo setting. Rashied and Coltrane had already done, ''Interstellar Space'' but the album was not released until 1974. So maybe Frank was better off not hearing it until after he recorded ''Duo Exchange'' in 1972 or 1973.

Thanks for the reminder, still have to find a decent copy of "Interstellar Space". I always wait for Coltrane to turn up locally though so perhaps it will soon. Great story about Tchicai with John and Yoko. I could that, him not getting paid. Probably figured he was a street musician with no reputation or career. That Survival label is gold, quality for 7 strong releases.

@@seekingathread Dom, I bought ''Interstellar Space'' when I was teen-ager. It was my first Coltrane purchase and the friendly clerk at the store urged me not to start with that Coltrane release. I chose it only for the fact that it was recorded on February 22, which is my birthday. It remains, even today, to be my favorite John Coltrane album. Of course, in the 1980's, I paid one dollar for the Ali/ Lowe, ''Duo Exchange''. Give Peace and chance and give Tchicai some cash.

Nice shout-out to Cédric. Hope you guys can hang out and do more face-to-face record type stuff. Love Ahmed Abdul Malik. Was lucky enough to score an OG of his Prestige LP. Very cool indeed. Ghost Trees looks really cool and sounds interesting. Speaking of the Gilson LP, I did recently show the Rakotozafy LP (I think incidentally I picked it up while Cedric was here). The Valiha is such an arresting instrument. That African Bird is super dope. So is that Jazz Meets the World. Cool af.

Ah it's hard to recall, I remember you showing the Gilson Malagasy box set. Your selections are always diverse and hard to remember! I will be collecting all the Malik records, everything he did as a session leader speaks to me plain and simple. Plus have to explore the other records he features on. Cedric and I will certainly be up to some more shenanigans.

If you ever see Ken McIntyre Hindsight grab it, it is an excellent session. OG is on Steeplechase and the Inner City reissue in the US is not expensive

The Ahmed Abdul-Malik / Sounds Of Africa was great to hear. It's exciting to hear that early "spiritual" (for lack of a better term) sound being explored so early. Very special. And the G.L. Unit 's Orangutang was great. The segment you played seemed very...diverse(?). Looking for a next stop on my Tony Scott, so all three of the records you could end up on my future want list. You actually inspire me to get Music for Yoga Meditation. And I recently order Music for Zen Meditation for a great price. The story about Scott and Parker was great. And I'm certain the Parker put the fund to good use ;). Great video, Dom. Certainly appreciate your effort. Cheers! Shawn.

Thank you as always for checking in Shawn. It's certainly been a Tony Scott themed year, can thank Stunty no less for that. Yoga Meditation is the gem to me, Voodoo as well. Zen Meditation is a notoriously cheap record but perhaps going up in price. Scott was clearly a seeker and free thinker. And explorer no doubt. More to come!

Strong jazz outing this time out..the g.l unit is not my thing but is highly regarded by many. The great tony scott..i got my copy of african bird in the early 90's and have treasured it since..stunty really put that one on alot of people's radar for sure. Still need all those jazz meets the world lp's never see them here and are usually a bit expensive for me now a days unfortunately. Glad you found something of interest on the richmond my take is very similar too yours.. Some of it is dated but some of it is very interesting worth keeping around for me. I have some traditional Madagascar music which i like...that is probably my favorite of Gilson's lp's for me. Though never owned a copy. Look forward too seeing that 2024 list video though i already know what is to come 😀..much love chris

Much appreciated of course you sending me the Richmond, and the rest of that sweet box. The traditional Madagascar may be a little road I should further go down. I love the otherworldliness of it all. I have one more Jazz Meets World title coming which I got for pretty cheap, (the Gruntz / Humair "Drums" title) but I don't see them either. Would like to complete the series there. Thanks again Chris, hope you're feeling better this week.

Hi Dom, nice video and been wanting to comment. I've found it interesting looking into European free improv artists (Saxophonists Peter Brotzmann, Evan Parker, guitarist Derek Bailey, the FMP label etc) to mix and match with US jazz at the freer end from the late 60s onwards. The melting pot of those sounds is pretty cool. I have a good sounding and relatively high energy Rashied Ali Quartet free jazz recording (on CD) you would probably dig, reissued on the Knitting Factory label in 1999 but originally on Survival. It's called 'New Directions in Modern Music' and captures a tight and street-wise 1971 performance in New York with the group in fine free form. Also, thanks for always going through the hassle of providing music snippets in your vids. They give a good sense of what's going down!

Hey Daniel, glad the sound clips are helping out. It helps narrow down things with me painting my long-winded descriptions lol. That New Directions in Modern Music is stellar, and actually got a copy last month which shall make its way to these parts soon. Thanks so much for getting in touch!

Hey Dom. I ended up selling my copy of Looking Ahead because it sounded terrible, not sure if it was the vinyl or just my copy but it looked decent, a solid VG+, I know New Jazz had the recycled vinyl, not sure if it was all of them or just some. Love the G.L. fantastic record and not an easy score stateside. Tony Scott African Bird is awesome, still need Djanger Bali, congrats on that. I love Duo Exchange, two of my favorite players. Great video!

Yes heard about some of that recycled vinyl with New Jazz. Just love their label design though, big part of it for me. This one despite the wear and tear was working for me, audio wise. I just got another Survival lp so looks like I'm working on collecting the label, which is thankfully a pretty small discography.
