I like digital for its compactness for when I'm on the go, but I also like CD/Vinyl because I like to have a physical copy of my music in my hand. If I can physically hold my music, it feels more permanent.

Same here.like all my music i own,some are burned cds or amazon mp3 downloads but i prefer the artwork & the official-ness of the real product.so if i burn a cd or download a few songs on my ipod that's to get me into it. I always buy cds or vinyl if it's not available on cd. Once i own the official i give the burned copy to a friend to get em hooked on the band.i went to a bestbuy last week & there were practically NO cds available,and the ones that were were nothing i emwant. They had no Carcass,Devourment,Buzzoven,Weedeater,Six Feet Under,Un Flames,Mnemic,Skeletonwitch,Bleeding Through,Amorphis. I found 2 cds worth buying BTBAM-Coma Ecliptic & Pink Floyd-Momentary Lapse of Reason

I definitely prefer vinyl when it comes to the format of choice. Such a satisfying medium on every level, the artwork, the multitude of color combinations, the sound quality (assuming it was properly and specifically mastered for vinyl and preferably analog), and extra goodies like full-size booklets, posters, and mp3 download codes. Absolutely nothing beats a vinyl box set, those are by far the most rewarding and well done releases a collector/fan can own. Unfortunately, vinyls are more expensive (unless you're digging out disco LPs from the bargain bin) than CDs and tapes, hence my CDs outnumber my LPs five to one.

Thanks for your vids, they're as timeless as old-school death metal. I was in my early 20-ties in the 90-ties, grew up with Sepultura, Death, Morbid Angel, Obituary whom I all had a chance to see at Dynamo Open Air. Always kept listening to a lot of heavy stuff, but lost track of what was coming in new. Now I picked that up again and got some real good advise from your vids. Really cool. Keep it coming. Disparaged is really top, you presented those guys on some vid about their label.

Well you will probably be surprised but yes, that's often the case. Cerebral Bore did not get paid at all for playing on bloodstock, and it cost them a lot to get there. The festival just takes the position of "If you don't want to play here, some other band will"...So a lot of beginning and even progressed bands still play for very little or nothing.

Yeah that's true. I like to purchase self-released albums via for instance bandcamp for the simple fact that i love to know that most of the money actually goes directly to the artists.

Ed,I'd like to know what you think of these lyrics Angry Avians The warm weather of spring The eggs have been laid Your friends have stopped by to admire them In the distance are five hungry pigs They're tired of eating grass. The eggs are gone ! Those dirty swine stole them Now yellow bird is seeing right He's looking in the direction of the pigs They won't give them back Never will they return them. Chasing them from segment to segment Level to level,world to world From one seasonal change to another With only one hope in mind The Eggs must be returned! Angry Avians If the bad pigs hadn't stolen the eggs We wouldn't be so irate For those pigs-It's too late !

The problem is that people like bands and authors need a external institute like a publisher / label to get their stuff printed, as it is very expensive. So most of the money goes back to that investment. Band and authors who do this on their own get more money but it's very costly to do so. Many people think to easy about making music and writing

I think that art is more bound to opinions then to definitions. Have you ever had a discussion with someone about modern art? ( which in my opinion often is crap ) people will say it's art, I say it looks as if made by a child. I think whether something is art is bound to people's own opinion. Which I respect. I also think it's art but I respect it when people don't see it that way.

You can put them on your mobile devices if you can't find a CD, and with the right sound card you can record them at much higher quality. Either 24bit/96khz or 24bit/192khz, as opposed to the 16bit/44.1khz on a CD. A high resolution file also makes a nice backup because vinyls are far more fragile and vulnerable to CD's. Of course, you can never beat the full, not sliced (sampled) analog sound wave of a vinyl, but you can still have the best of both worlds (analog and digital).

Agreed the hikes with earphones. That's amazing. But what I was saying is that listening music in the bus, metro, train isn't the same as listening to music at home. Filling your room with the sound, even though someone is around, or you are alone, and you can head bang freely, or walk, or work, while having the album, the specific sequence of songs and the theme of that specific year of the band is amazing. Using the vinyl or the cd to do it is just ritual, beats mp3 by far. I've 110gb (pirate)
@InfidelAmsterdam
@InfidelAmsterdam 11 жыл бұрын
None of these bands ask go get rich of it, nor to make a living from it. It's simple, when we buy music, labels earn money, when labels earn money they can sign and support a band to create their music and make cd's. Doing gigs does not automatically means that bands get paid for those gigs. Often they don't actually.

If you are a big music fan with a limited budget you have to be a fan of the 3 formats, I buy vinyl from time to time from the 80's and some newer ones that aren't that expensive, for 90's and early 2000's music you need the CD's which are cheaper, I think downloading is ok as long as you try to buy what you really like on physical format and you are willing to spend some bucks on music

There are a lot of genres like that though, a lot of rap (not all) is about girls and money and drugs and fame, pop songs are often about being in love and having fun, rock songs are about doing cool stuff with your friends, and a lot of metal is just as you described. Hey Ed, I was wondering how you feel about albums being remastered. You probably know about the Death albums being remastered as well as The Key by Nocturnus among many others. Do you prefer the originals or think that (sometimes) remasters can ruin an album or even improve it - or are they another way for record labels to make some more money? (that's not a bad thing)
@InfidelAmsterdam
@InfidelAmsterdam 11 жыл бұрын
I don't talk about mainstream music, I talk about metal. Have you any idea how much money is involved in creating a cd? Who pays all that? The bands themselves? Sometimes a band manages to get some cash together, but mostly the label takes care of that. Prices of an album is often not the fault of the label. I buy cd's from labels from 8$ which is say 6 euros, if a store asks 18 euros for the same cd who's fault is that then? If it's so bad to be with a label then why do bands wanna be with one?
