Hello Guys, Mazurek and J. Parker, great albums released by this label company. I need more J. Parker. This Mazurek is powerful. This is a new release from him at the moment.. Great one and yes still fresh by J. Dejhonette. I still have the signed CD of the Petruciani album I got before a concert in the end of the 80s. JD Beck and Domi, I need this one. Thanks for sharing. Lovely to see you both again. Happy new year. Michel Petrucianni - French jazz piano legend. Indeed he was of very small stature. Need to revisit that Monk soundtrack. You've re-awakend my need to hear it. JD Beck and Domi are a cool duo. They're everywhere at the minute. Both of them were child prodigies. Massive Attack = one of my absolute favourite bands of all time.

That Rare Arista is cool. Love Devotion. Superb McLaughlin LP. Monkey Man great choice, that track and Live With Me are my favourites on Let It Bleed, although it's loaded with amazing songs from front to back. Jeff Beck was a true genius. His contributions to Stevie Wonder's music are incredible. Blow by Blow is a superb record. Funny I was looking at that Pino Paladino release just yesterday.. Synchronicity. That Rob Mazurek is great. Ditto Jeff Parker's the New Breed. I would love that new JP release but no copies in Australia as yet and I don't order from overseas, so I'll have to wait.

Great to see you guys, happy new year, best wishes! Both JD Beck & Domi and that Louis Cole were high on my 2022 list. I saw Petrucciani twice in the early 90's he was always spectacular, and a gentle man. Jim Black, I think he was also playing with Uri Caine's band. Fantastic drummer indeed. I'm still looking for that eighties ladies and that melba. I have that raw silk on the french Jonathan label, killer tune. This is my favorite Rolling Stones lp! Played it very recently. Very nice that Palladino live lp. I wasn't aware of the release. That George Duke lp is stellar, also one of my favs by him . The Odyssey lp was released on MoWest. Really great stuff, I think it was reissued a few years ago. Obscure band. Thanks for sharing all that amazing music. Take care guys!

Hey Chris! Yes - Jim Black played a lot with Uri Caine. Also seems to have 10 albums of his own on Winter & Winter. I only have 2. Need to do some catching up there ... All best J

The Byrds with Clarence White were a whole different beast indeed. Need to hear that Horace Andy. Been playing some Black Uhuru too. That Marian Gebru sounds amazing. Gonna have a listen. In Rainbows is a masterpiece. In the past few years it has become my favourite Radiohead release. Things Behind the Sun is one I play on guitar too (Am/E/ F etc..). I just talked about that ND record on my Island records video. Great stuff guys.

Happy New Year, Mark and John!! Your videos in 2022 were like Manna from Heaven for me. Mark, Anthony Braxton has expressed his love for Johnny Mathis also, so we can both still hold our heads high. I always wished that Jeff Beck and Stevie Wonder would have formed a working band and recorded a nice string of albums together. McLaughlin seems to disavow his ''Devotion'' album, he claims that Alan Douglas tampered with the tapes without John's approval. I love the album and think that the ''real'' reason that he doesn't talk about it, is because he got screwed on his royalties. Britains are the best at compilations, for sure. I hung around and worked with Bob Bell, in Providence, when he was the manager of Roomful Of Blues. He worked for Island Records and created ''The Trojan Story'' compilation in 1971, the first Jamaican music anthology. I adore Norman Connors version of Thom Bell's ''Betcha By Golly Wow'' with Phyllis Hyman, by the way, Johnny Mathis also covered it. ''New Directions'' is a perfect recording, Lester Bowie is the guiding light. Lester had the audacity to live with Fela Kuti and record with him. When I gave Don Cherry and Ed Blackwell a ride to the train station, in my car, I played them Black Uhuru's ''Chill Out'' album on my tape player. The only other tape I had with me was the Aerosmith ''Rocks'' album, sometimes I wish I had played that instead, it would have created an interesting discussion.

Happy New Year to you Michael too and thanks for watching. The last time I saw writer Greg Tate do a reading - it was all about Lester B's time with Fela. I'd never realised he stayed there for such a long time. Hard to tell whether Don and Ed would have been Steven Tyler fans or not... All best John

“Ain’t No Love” originally by Bobby Bland, interestingly enough covered by Whitesnake and Black Pumas. I agree on the Horace Andy lp’s being best reggae, but strong contenders are Dreadzone “Dubwiser vol.2”, Gaudi had 3 releases last year one with Youth “Martin Glover” called “Stratosphere” , a compilation called Sub Signals vol.2” and my favorite of the three, Gaudi and Savona “Havana Meets Kingston In Dub”. Earl Sixteen had a couple of strong releases last year as well. Enjoy the show, cheers!

That Louis Cole album is definitely a favourite from 2022… so good! Nice to see some Michel Petrucciani, maybe a VC first?! There’s a great video of him playing “Looking Up” on a skyscraper, also a live solo version of “Take the A Train” in concert from a Russian channel (4.49) which is unbelievable!

Interesting to read Michel’s bio also (wiki?) was a notorious party animal. When he first moved to NYC he said he was staying & playing piano most nights in a brothel!

6:25 I enjoyed that one John. "Histoire de Melody Nelson". I think. The only Massive Attack album that I ever see shown is 'Blue Lines". I never saw or heard Karmacoma. >< Another one that I never heard is McLaughlin's 'Devotion'. I am not family with his early solo albums. I think I started with Electric Guitarist. >< Nice words about Jeff Beck. He was surely an innovator. Not to make this all about me. But two quick stories. I saw him twice live. Once in 76 at the sweatbox/general admission Cape Cod Coliseum. He was headlining with Jan Hammer. The backup was a young southern rock band named Lynyrd Skynyrd. Super show. The second time I saw him was in 1983 at the Ronnie Lane Tribute at Madison Square Garden. One of the highlights of the show was seeing Beck, Clapton & Page playing together at the same time. Jeff never lost his finger skills even in his seventies. I am always surprised when you show Johnny Mathis. Is that one of his better albums? That Mojo Club 'Dancefloor Jazz' looks and sounds really interesting. Did you hear any of the other volumes? One of my top 25 singles of all time is Black Uhuru's 'Sinsemilla'. Outstanding song. It stimulates my ears, heart and soul. >< This one was so darn enjoyable guys. I salute the VC Sessions once again~ Rob/Boston

Hey Rob. 6:25 definitely goes down a senior moment ... Jeff Beck/Jan Hammer with Lynyrd Skynyrd sounds like one of those great Bill Graham 70s packages. A friend I worked with told me that his first two concerts in Philly were Mahavishnu+Frank Zappa with Weather Report+Return To Forever the following week! Hope you're well. Cheers John

@@omniversal7 Wow John. That is two outstanding shows to kick off anyone's concert outings. He was lucky. My first show was only about 25 minutes. Which was Ten Years After at the Boston Garden. My babysitter snuck me in. The year before I begged my folks to let me go and see The Doors with my older cousin Steve. He was begging them too. I had the ticket in my hand for the show at Boston Arena. They would not budge. They said that a nine old was too young to see a rock show. I will never forget when my cousin and his two friends left for the show. I did get a program from the show. My cousin told me that Morrison was drinking everything that they crowd passed up to him. Three quarters into the show he was stumbling with the words and his balance. My first real whole show was The Beach Boys and Chicago in 1975 at Schaefer Stadium which is now Foxboro Stadium where the New England Patriots play. I got to see the Boys with Brian, Dennis and Carl and also Chicago with Terry Kath. >< What was your first show?

I’d been to a few variety shows with my mum & dad but I think the first gigs I went to myself (luckily I looked older than I was) was either Fleetwood Mac or the Groundhogs who fairly regularly played in the back room of a pub near where I lived. This would have been 1968 when I was 15
