Can we all take a moment to appreciate that (a) this guy helped get many, many artists put down the BEST quality of their track to vinyl - which is a NOTORIOUSLY difficult medium to work with ... and (b) his unashamed enthusiasm for what he's doing after 30 years.

I wonder how many timeless and game changing tunes in music history got their status thanks to right decions of mastering person. And how many good tunes with massive potential didn't make it because mastering didn't elevated them :)

Never realised what Porky Prime Cut meant before. Now I do. He did literally hundreds of all the early rave/hardcore vinyl from the early 90's that I own, plus Sabbath and Zeppelin! Quality

Some of the greatest music committed to vinyl was cut by this man. Huge respect and grateful thanks!

What a dude. He looks like he should be fixing your boiler but he's a wolf in sheep's clothing and you KNOW he's feeling it from the way he moves. Also the bit about doing it for the love of the music - spoken like a pro. Nice Fairchild by the way!!

Unbelievable catalogue of cuts, and why he hasn't been interviewed on mainstream TV or radio has always been a mystery. He's been there, done it and stored everything upstairs. Always a joy to have an attended cut as his stories of the Apple days were not only first hand, but dynamite!!! There's no one around to replace that 'pumped up at Porky's' sound anymore. His cuts are immense, and no one's ever got near, and sadly no one ever will. Top man!

Just stopping by to show my appreciation to the legend. Thank you for all the amazing work mastering those cuts Porky!

Thank you for this important history. I love the bits and pieces youve collected over the years, little threads in the fabric of the culture. Lots of documentary people want to put everything in a straight line, they do damage to the details trying to force it all together. Its not so neat. Stand-alone artifacts like a snapshot of this guy’s mastering studio, does justice to the multitude of people, energies, perspectives and projects that make up this history. Well done.

this man is incredible. I am lucky to own 5 albums that were cut/mastered by him and all of them sound beyond fantastic (Deep Purple - Fireball. MMEB - The Good Earth. Genesis - SEBTP. LedZep - Untitled. Genesis - TLLDOB). surely more to come by time.

Think this perfectly illustrates just how open-minded mastering engineers usually are - just well into the music, regardless of what genre it is. From the Beatles to D&B, it's quite a musical leap but he even has the off-beat headnod right! And he knows how to use a VMS80. Badman.

I just checked my 1989 12" of Wishbone Ash ("Cosmic Jazz"), and there it was etched into the deadwax: "Porky Prime Cut"!
@voodoochild1975az11 жыл бұрын
Be that as it may, to my ears, and the ears of most audiophiles, 'Porky Cuts' are sought out for a reason. Just like Wally's over at Capitol back in the day. Porky simply did better work than his peers. Maybe his hearing is better than most. Some people do in fact hear better than others. 2 points; variation in hearing exist. Porky knows how to master vinyl. Personally I suspect his love of music and open mind is his secret... But your opinion notwithstanding, the man knows his job.

Music lovers and musicians alike should bow down & give eternal thanks & praise to the gods for giving us this man! If God is a DJ then Porky Peckham is a creator of gods!!

"Porky" must be an unsung hero.Met him only once with the master tapes for Jordi Valls VDO "Pagan Drums Of Calanda".And believe me,I had not met anybody before or as such with an "amazing sound mastering genius",that one could talk to,and feel with such "sound" sharing reciprocal an experience talking about far out hi-fi levels,before or after like him.I can only think of he Dead's sound alchemist Stanley Owsley...soon after I entered his extraordinary studio,I had missed George Harrison for five minutes.One knew that that was a true encounter with all things sound freak head plus (with all his Porky relics about) and,but if something George Peckham is a true original!!!!! even from The Beatles times already,and much more,so much more.

Uploaded 14 years ago and only today have I seen this. Never know what Porky Prime Cut meant when I saw it on my records and that explained why 45s often sounded fuller. Explains why No U Turn stuff always sounded fat and punchy.
