That celestial explosion is a great find..actually looking for a copy myself of that one. Glad you dug the five elements figured you might 😀. I like that michael white cover as well..great lp too. Tony scott is definitely a musician worth a deeper dive. That entire jazz meets the world series is great still missing all of them!..😂.. Great response to the tag brother..enjoyed it..much love chris

Big love to you sir. I hope you are hanging in there. I will be exploring that jazz meets world series in depth this year. seems like a natural transition for me. Peace

Great tag, i picked up that Bensusan 2 record some time ago too. Wasn't familiar with it, but really like the labradford album you were playing.

Hey Thijs. The first 3-4 Labradford records are all fantastic. My favorite is maybe A Stable Reference or the s/t one. thanks for checking in.

that first Labradford was easy to find for awhile but tried getting it the last couple years and it's been difficult. i recently found a cheap copy of the second pressing w the alt cover (prefer OG cover). 2023 my obsession with Kranky year. have always loved the label but hadn't focused on the releases until last year.
@seekingathread Жыл бұрын
That is the same for me. There were certain Kranky releases I just hadn't gotten into but that changed. Some I loved and ordered, others I felt I didn't need. Labradford is certainly one of the best on the label

Great selection as always Dom! Khan Jamal, what amazing records. And funny I just picked up Tony Scott's 'Djanger Bali' too, I feel it's a record in the Jef Gilson vein, not creating a pastiche but a working with such a high calibre of musicians, letting them lead rather than impossing a US or European agenda on the music. Oh and I mentioned a Holy Tounge record in Stunty's stream to you, but it's not the one with Beatrice Dillion on it, which isn't so good, it's actually 'Deliverance And Spiritual Warfare' their debut that I think you'd really dig alot. Looking forward to your next video

Hey Chris. Yes I'm going to explore more of that series Jazz Meets the World. Should all be excellent. Ah and that makes sense about the Beatrice Dillon / Magaletti. I'll have a look for the Deliverance LP... thanks for clarifying

The Michael White was on the wall at Glasshouse and I think both Alex and Sherv recommended but I passed. At the time I was not feeling violin in my jazz but times have changed. Will pick it up next time I run across it. A bunch of OG Zamrock still at Noble man. I think I got the Ofege from Mono in LA for 30 bucks because the cover was torched and record VG but it’s still a jammer.
@seekingathread Жыл бұрын
Dillon will certainly be inundated to Zamrock inquiries when I can get down there in person.

Man "Pump up the Jam" is so good. I have that same single and the album on tape, so I use it as my general equipment testing song. You can really hear the room ambience from the vocal track.

Nice, love that as a demo track. I may use it as a one-two punch for testing with Big Star's Ballad of El-Goodo

I guess I’ll do this one. That Mos Def album is probably his best. The Slick Rick feature on there is impeccable. That album also introduced me to Georgia Anne Muldrow - who I stream sometimes but never have owned any albums. She just has a cool vibe. I’m confused, I thought you liked that GBV comp. Or are you saying they didn’t need to release any of their new albums? Cool seeing that Rentals album, and a bootleg. Nice. Keep pumping up the jams, Dom. ✌🏻

I've gat jams for days. No, I do like that GBV comp, I was just being mean to fair and good ole bob. I'm sure all 300 of the records he released in the last 5 years have merit and good songs. I just can't follow like that anymore. In fact, I've sworn off doing that as a policy. With the exception of perhaps 3 artists, YLT among them. Didn't know Muldrow was on that Mos. I wait with baited breath for the Jon-tag.

Hi Dom, a great batch of videos in recent weeks and a pleasantly esoteric way to start the new year. You have been able to establish and maintain links with other channels to help spread the word on the weird and wonderful world of experimental/underground music in all its forms. This constitutes a significant public service! Guided by Voices has settled into a signature sound in recent years that offers no real surprises but remains consistently good on most releases. But I do retain a fondness for that skronky, fragmented pop music of the mid 90s period covered on the 'Scalping the Guru' comp and the likes of 'Bee Thousand'. You showed a couple of first rate TFUL 282 releases on a recent video and wanted to plug the 1996 album 'I Hope it Lands' on the Communion Label. This one is also awash with acid-fried weirdness the band did so well!
@seekingathread Жыл бұрын
Hey Daniel. I have added that Thinking Fellers to my w/l, streamed it too. Definitely a weirder release for them but strangely cool and weird. I was a bit harsh with GBV there. I've seen them many times and most recently about 5 years back. They're still good and fun and I'm sure their records are good. I just know I don't need to go down that path for me. Glad the selections are resonating. There's a small, but consistent constituency of the VC that is dedicated to spreading the word on lesser known artists and music. I'm happy to contribute to that endeavor. thanks so much
@danielbigna5469 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for responding Dom. The stuff you show is just so interesting and mention of those bands releasing albums in the early to mid 1990s such as TFUL 282, GBV and others at various times like Sebadoh etc reminds me of the undercurrents bubbling away beneath the 90s 'indie rock' scene when people would appear on MTV raving about what a genius Kurt Cobain was without the slightest idea of what was actually going on and what the connections/precedents were. It's a bit like those people who enthuse about jazz and what a great art form it is but wouldn't go near an Albert Ayler/ Peter Brotzmann/Charles Gayle record if you paid them! Also wanted to mention that I put my hand up to being a 'CD person' as it's the format I grew up with and it would have been impossible to start over again. So, when your band hits the studio to record a full length can you release a CD edition!!

@@danielbigna5469 Always got to go a little deeper. I will keep doing so. Will consider a CD actually because my son also really wants me to as well! It bet its super cheaper and turns around real quick too
