My older brother who has special needs used to be so violent towards me and my siblings that at one point my parents had to bring him to a facility to help him and get him the help and meds he needed. You would never know looking at him now as he is the most gentle loving guy. Sometimes its the only option and is better for everyone.

My brother was extremly violent against me and my parents did almost nothing. They send him to therapie from time to time but it was never long enough to heal him, because "he missed us so much". Today he is in a clinic because of alcohol and drug abuse. My parents wanted to look like a normal family so much, that they totaly destroyed our childhood. My sister and my father don´t talk to my brother anymore, my mother is still excusing his behavior and for me: I honestly dont know what to say about it anymore. My parents just choosed the wrong path

More respect for parents like these, that know there's nothing to be done, outside of psychiatric long term treatment, and do whatever it takes to get him help, rather than those that see the signs, but ignore them, and the kid end up mauling or killing someone. @@emilycooper442 i feel like Rian was saying that some parents will allow the child to get worse while "loving" them. true love includes sacrifices and if you love your child or anyone you would do anything especially if there are no alternatives. the sacrifice in this video was to leave the child so he can get better. almost like how Jesus left His glory in heaven and came on earth as a human (not even rich or anything but as a poor to average man so he can relate with us all) and to die with OUR sin even though He is pure and has never sinned. it is like you being excecuted for a murder you didn't commit. I have struggled to enjoy it. Initially it was fine but now every staff member is either sleeping with each other or is so messed up it’s now just so boring and not enjoyable. April and Natalie are so unlikeable and ridiculous.....ED Drs and nurses don’t go all over the hospital treating patients and there is no surgery that needs to be performed in ED. Hospitals do have designated emergency theatres. This show is embarrassing and so unrealistic it’s laughable

I worked in a group home, a boy there had to be legally abandoned or "surrendered" to his case worker and by proxy us so that we could better control his care. Similarly, it took a lot of convincing for his mom to do it, because she saw it as giving up on him. The reality is it's just on paper, and two years later he was able to control his anger effectively, hadn't been in an altercation, was doing better in school, slept better, appetite came back, and showered regularly (teenagers are rank bruv). Despite "abandoning" him, he got to move back in with her and guess what? They have a healthy relationship and are doing great. Also side note, just because you legally abandon someone, doesn't mean you can't still see and communicate with them, ergo it makes no real difference other than you aren't responsible for their care monetarily.

Nice to hear a hopeful story! I had friends who had to “abandon” their adopted daughter for the same reason. To my knowledge, she didn’t respond well to treatment, and never returned to them. She had a brutally traumatic past. 😢

In Finland if you abandon or surrender your child, you wouldn't be allowed custody again. Even children in foster care are still technically in the custody of their parents, and no legal choices can be made for them without parental consent. Once you legally sever your ties to your parents, they cannot be reinstated. I was emancipated at 16, and legally my parents had no say after that. I was hospitalized due to ed and the hospital wouldn't call my parents, because legally they were not allowed to. I was 17 at the time. After I turned 18 I was allowed to add my mom as my emergency contact. I am very lucky that me being emancipated didn't affect my relationship with my parents in the long term. My mom was just unable to take care of me at the time. I'm 32 now, and my mom has been clean for over 10 years. If I wasn't emancipated at 16, I wouldn't have a relationship with my mom today. My brother hasn't seen our mom in 13 years, and I know that it could have just as easily be me who ended up that way.

Having your child taken away to get healthy or leave your child with you and just let the violence grow is very hard to choose but all they have to do is wait right? If it was the only way to have a child healthy then yes I would do anything even if it means they grow up without the love from their actual parent or a guardian. And even if it means we will be called abandoners. As long as the child is well that is all. No actually in this instance no one calls them abandoned as long as They are still there for him. They just don't have the right to decide for him as a ward of the state. It's not abandoned. It's a horrible decision but it is to save his life. Kids with this kind of problem often end up like this. It's actually the best, if saddest way to get them the help they need. Even I countries with tax paying for Healthcare residential treatment, which may be permanent for their whole lives, tends to be out of reach for many. They said it wasn't forever, but it can be depending on hus needs

Dr. Charles is just as evil for splitting families. This story also breaks my heart as my parents were in a similar situation when I was four years of age, and they had the courage to continue raising me as opposed to confining me to an institution.

This hit me like a bullet. I was taken into child custody after some things my mom never did that her ex did. It traumatized me. And hearing this boy say "I wanna go home" and "no please" I broke down crying because that's all I said when they took me away from my mother. After 10 years I now live with my mom happily. I still have traumas like ptsd (thanks to child custody actually they caused some traumas) and attachment issues as well as abandonment issues but now I do live with the one they should've never seperated me from. Now I vouched to myself that if I ever where to get a child I'd adopt them. And I'd adopt one that most people would see as a "demons child" why? Because no matter who they are. They still deserve someone to love them unconditionally.

my friend been surrendered to the hospital when he was 8 years old due to his parents think he was violent but it was his older brother, they shocked the doctors while they saying there's nothing wrong with my friend so they left him there and he never seen his parents again without saying goodbye. so i took him under my wing but i was 4 at the time and now he's in the Marines.

Update from my previous comment in this video: This kid unfortunately reminds me of a child in my preschool. He’s a bright kid and very curious. But the moment he’s dysregulated, he lashes out physically to his friends and all the educators and takes an insanely long time to calm down. I have been punched, kicked, bitten…and I know this child NEEDS help. Watching this made me relive a bit of that trauma and is the reason why I look forward while dreading a bit coming to work.

It's not just the other child's life, but also the prior child's life too. By hurting other (unintentionally), he hurts himself but he doesn't realize it. The mental abnormality is something that parents will most likely be unable to manage or heal him either. They need a professional expert for proper treatment and procedure. But I know it's also not the best method. I'm aware (some if not most) mental facilities cause more trauma than it should have healed. Countless cases where they become even more broken or almost brainwashed which is pretty sad. As a psych student, it hurts me that these stuff happens. I genuinely want to help people with mental challenges, but with the reputation that mental hospitals and wards get from real-life events and cases, it's difficult to have people rely on psychologists/psychotherapists/psychiatrists - COMPLETELY understandable. It's just, there are also those who really want to help via applying the practice and knowledge they have. Then again, psychology is a relatively ambiguous and morphed study especially with the culture of always having to fit the standards of society. It's a dilemma I do have, but in the end, I just want to help. Honestly, no one will ever know the BEST way to help them. That's why we rely on communication, connection, and compassion so much. Those are the few major ways we can do to understand them, but will never fully experience their own experience. :(

He’s not a ‘psychopath’ 1. he experiences empathy and remorse 2. lack of empathy doesn’t automatically make someone violent or dangerous anyway 3. he simply had multiple mood regulation disorders. While i get that its unthinkable to 'abandon' your child like this, you NEED to think of it the other way around. What about your other child? This ones condition will only get worse, and as he grows up hell get bigger, stronger, and more dangerous. There could be a time you would come home only to find hes killed your younger child. People don't always react by collapsing into a wet heap. Most of us do that when the thing is all over and finished. There is an immense amount of paperwork to do and talks with the older child. And, don't forget, there is a very seriously injured younger child in the hospital, as well.

I'm very loud and can get childish and because of this I have hard time getting along with my classmates and family. On top of that I was diagnosed with autism and no matter how much I try to control my emotions, they're always popping off at the wrong time. But unlike the boy, I don't use violence if unnecessary. Totally not related but where I'm from, we have 1 general hospital, you can surgery done today and be released tomorrow because we do not have enough beds, there is 1 day in the week designated for surgery so you'll have to wait until that day to get surgery, American Healthcare is still far greater than others. 😭😭

His father can not be there every time he blows and tries to hurt someone. I watched a story on the news in my country with a family that said No to the drs, No to the medication and the treatment facility. That boy one day turned around and killed his mother in a fit of uncontrollable anger. It took his mother dying for the whole family to finally say yes to the facility and that boy is now a man and he still lives at the facility because the damage was done and he won't ever be free again. He gets days out to town to interact with his other family members but he must be returned and if he is out past curfew then the police will be sent out to get him back. His father can't forgive him but he hasn't cut him out of the family either because he knows it was his fault that he failed to act when he should have.

Unforunately, this happens in places with Universal Healthcare. Canadian provinces do not cover theraputic group homes as health care.

Me and my brother used to have a really hard time dealing with anger and there are still things that set us off, he's been violent towards me twice even after he learned to controll it better. The biggest problem is that we've never gotten any kind of help and now have no idea why we're like this. My mom is supporting us in trying to find out but we aren't really telling our dad because he just thinks my mom's looking for things that aren't there.

My brother was very violent towards me and would often beat me up but it wasn’t until he became violent to them that they kicked him out. He never got the help he needed and now he’s in jail. I’m the only one who visits him 😔😔😔

Kudos to you for not completely blocking him out of your life and continuing to visit him, people will never heal if their support system is limited, when he gets out, maybe try and convince him to go through therapy. I don't know your brothers behavior, attitude and/or mental condition but its on your parents for not getting him the help he needs. Wishing you and your brother goodluck.

We fostered an 8 year old child that had a really tough background. In and out of the system. Caught him in the middle of trying to set the house on fire in the middle of the night. Tried to kill the cat, and then throw huge rocks at another boy that was just way too much for us to be able to hand, the foster program figured it was time for full time care. We felt horrible for the child , but we had other foster kids to care for. Only after did we find out we were the 8th house that he was placed in, one after another. The foster systems are underfunded and the older kids don't get the help they need.

There was a kid in my school who was like this, easy to anger, didn't react to authority. And this is kind of the same instances that were happening at the school, only he would get mad at the kids who were smaller than he was and they couldn't do anything.But one day he got mad at a kid about 3x the size he was. I didn't end well for him and well I never saw him again.

I like this clip for one reason. It shows you the hard reality that sometimes when you want your son or daughter to have a good well-being, you have to make difficult choices in order that your child will have a brighter future. In this case the parents had to surrender the custody of Jamie just so he gets the help he needs. That is a very difficult and painful choice to a parent, and not everyone are capable making that decision.

On one hand I’m ashamed and on the other I’m glad, because it started the road to recovery. Doors were locked, anything sharp was put away. We made sure we could always see him and not be surprised. I wondered if we would end up another awful news story. Everyone we know adores him, he is adorable. He is autistic and I thought a lot of it was because of that diagnosis but I’ve come to realise that his mental condition is unrelated to that but it did make it harder to see at first.

I currently work with disabled children, at a special-ed school, from whom many live in residential facility housings. Unfortunately, with how the medical profession doesnt pay as well in Finland as it does in USA, none of these children seem to be getting the care they need from these residential facility housings. The school I work at is a part of a residential facility on its own; there are children, grown-ups and elderly.

The US healthcare/social service system just blows my mind away in all the wrong ways. I work in social services and my agency does everything they can to keep the child out of our care. In this situation the agency would pay the cost themselves rather than the parents have to surrender the child. Whatever resources we can throw at the parents we will. They didn't abandon him though. They did the only thing they could to help him because their insurance wouldn't pay for the treatment he needed. Blame the insurance companies for putting the parents in that position. It's obviously not something they wanted to do, but something that they HAD to do in order to get him his treatment.

Oof, brings me back when i was younger, i used to have massive anger issues, i cannot tell if the ADHD was the cause, but the moment i hit puberty the anger issues disappeared, and according to tests the ADHD was pretty much ADD at that poinbt, the "hyperactive" part was gone. Seeing this i guess i can consider myself lucky that i did not need to get locked up somewhere for years, separated from my family and friends potentially.
