Beautiful stuff. It's funny. In Phox, Monica's voice was kind of the constant sound. The band came in and out with varied sounds and quirky instruments. Her voice was like the climate that everything happened in. There's something about the breathiness and the throaty texture of her voice that both fills and seems to create space. Violents has a string quartet, and the overall vibe is probably a steadier, solid thing. But the strings aren't a mere bed, under everything. The drums and bass parts are incredible. Jeremy's piano is a dramatic counterpoint to Monica's vocals. The whole thing is really stirring. Damn. Monica is an incredible, unique singer. I miss Phox. But I love both projects. Awesome.
