To me this sounds like you need to watch, “ A Silent Voice”, on Netflix. The studio that made “Violet Evergarden”, KyoAni, also made this film. I’ve never really been a fan of Anime, I thought it really was the same as other forms of entertainment. I just left it alone assuming I wouldn’t enjoy any of it. Until KyoAni showed me the way. (:

My mother is a psychotherapist. She had never watched anime, apart from a fiew Miyazaki's movies. I conviced her to watch Violet Evergarden with me, and she felt in love with the serie at the first episode. She said the retranscription of emotions is so accurate to what some of her patients have been through, and the character of Violet is just a best-off of every disfunction that can occur in someone's life, and how they sometimes manage to overcome them by listening to themselves. Now i have a mother addicted to seinen anime. Great.

Like a vintage wine or Scotch, seinen anime has those subtle qualities that a longtime aficionado or someone with a bit more life experience can really savor, e.g. Death Parade, Showa Rakugo Shinjuu, Megalobox, LotGH DNT and more recently Sing Yesterday For Me. Pass the Kleenex, plz.

I cried like 5,000,000 times watching Violet Evergarden and just felt pain in my heart for every sad moment (no im serious i did) but when you talked about the otaku moments you have to realize lots of anime were directed towards younger audiences as VE Violet Evergarden was more for mature eyes and to bring a heartfelt story to the overlooked or belittled media and art form anime. Those otaku moments are to give the characters a more lovable personality although they often interfere with show or the main origin i think they are a way of comic relief

1) Wholeheartedly agree I love Violet Evergarden so much for this very reason 2) I will say FMAB is also fantastic. The silly comedy isn't entirely unwarranted, and also isn't always present. I think in a show like FMAB which is a lot longer, it's important to break from the weighty emotions or else it'l get to hefty. It takes itself serious when it has too. All in all, I'd say still give it a shot.

I personally have a really low tolerance for fanservice or hyper silly moments in anime unless it's a comedy like Asobi Asobase. I don't mind light hearted moments but I feel like there's a lack of earnestness sometimes, like the creators are afraid we might take the themes too seriously or might engage too much with the media. So they give us a funny distraction for a few seconds and then get back to the plot.

FMA otaku moments i think feel balance, they dont ever enter scenes that are serious like when the human dog experiment goes wrong, or when they cry not being able to save a girl, or when envy kills someone, or when mustang burns envy repeatedly, or edward stares at mustang the first time after seeing his brother ripped and seeing his mother corpse. Otaku moments feel a bit human (which is weird yeh), but scenes like edward elric turns his hand into a scythe and tears down the church guards, or mustang being tripped by hawkeye cos he's using fire in rain against scar, are just conveying a hyperbolized appearance of these emotion. The "bitch try me" when Edward get's his scythe out, it may take you out of the seriousness but that shouldn't stop anything else later not feeling serious, otherwise how do you watch movies like pixar, plus the church guards are like the lame minion troopers, that felt non-threatening when you first see them and the conclusion was always going to be they'd be beaten up, just that now you know understand how Edward felt with the "otaku moment", that he felt quite optimistic that he can shred them. The mustang being tripped is conveyed in "otaku moment", but showing how clumsy humans can be at even the most serious of moments. Another further reason they exist are not tell the audience to not take this seriously, but to look at the world differently. FMA deals with the idea of war, god, death and nihilism, these can make it depressing and they know it is, but the otaku moment are to say lets look at the funny side of things at times. I disagree that it's like marvel, where aside from infinity war, the comedic moment ruin badass moments in these films which aren't the case in fma or most anime i've seen. But yeh i guess you could say have funny dialogue instead of badly drawn picture, if you want it less dark, but to me thats also their expression on the inside and not just language oriented. I think digibro did do something similar talking about this juxtaposition, that serious moment in reality arent always completely serious, that in this world seriousness cant be controlled and something clumsy, or silly will interject, and as bill hick says "it's just a ride".
@MediaIsMythic6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for sharing your perspective. I can see your point and ultimately it boils down to how the art effects you. I really struggled with the FMA section of this video because I didn't want people to feel like I was bashing the show, or telling them they were dumb for liking it because honestly, I can see the appeal. I just for some reason couldn't get into it, and those moments were sort of part of it. I wish I could have gone deeper into it as well, but more action oriented shows don't appeal to me as much these days, and I don't know why that is, considering i'm a massive Star Wars fan, and like very action oriented movies, etc. I was ultimately just trying to convey exactly how I felt about it, which I couldn't really help.

@@MediaIsMythic I think I almost would've had the same reaction until one of the "otaku moments" made me laugh. But the one thing I didn't like in your video is that you called it insincerity. I think that's the wrong word. "Silliness," "absurdity," or may be "slapstick humor," seem more apt. I don't think it's fair to say that the otaku moments are insincere to the art: in fact, in romcoms, the moments might arise directly from the Manga. Instead, couldn't you call them storytelling devices, just like any other metaphor, simile, or figurative language? I wonder on which side "a place further than the universe" would fall for you since, to me, if was a bit of both: not as emotional as violet evergarden, but not as slapstick as FMA. Thanks for the video! It's an interesting take on why Violet Evergarden stands out.

I might be the only person who thinks this, but I think it is because it real about her true love being gone. It doesn't give that fake heartwarming ending where he was alive all along. It shows her grow as a person, admit her pain, see others pain, and still move on living a life she made for herself. Because in the real world when the one you love pass on. Your not going to get the they where there all along ending. Your going to have to grow and learn to love again. So I think that why it was good, because it was true to the feelings of lose and didn't give you that fake happy ending people root for. It gave you the truth that she can love someone else someday. I hope they don't cop out in season two an bring him back. I want to see what new root she will take without him.

The reason why this anime is outstanding is because despite the "fantasy" atmosphere it is brutally realistic and and crude regarding a complicated subject: the life after war. In the original light novel Violet is actually a demigod, daughter of the Goddess of War, that's the source of her superhuman strength, she carries a giant ax double her size that regular people can't lift but she can handle with ease. The people responsible of the anime we very smart getting rid of all this fantasy elements and strip the concept till a very realistic scenario. In the anime it doesn't matter why Violet has superior battle skills, that's just needed to build her background as a "living weapon" and from that point develop her character episode by episode in a way I've never seen in any other anime. This anime is simply a masterpiece and probably the best anime of the last 20 years

The soundtrack of Violet Evergarden is literally as if it's matching the emotions shown through the animation with each and every character that Violet Evergarden goes to serve.

Glad you explain this. I personally love this anime and can relate because of how hard it is for me to express my emotion. The way of how the letter works as one of the symbol of communication back in the past. And for Violet herself who slowly overcome her emotionless and ruthless to become a normal girl with full of emotion bit by bit. 10 years in a deserted island, abandoned, only knew how to kill, for me overcoming this state is kinda good to watch. The way they put the story to make sure the viewers understand the emotion thah Violet learn from other people. I hope people that found this anime or this story boring can look from different perspective. From what i experienced from watching the anime and reading the light novel, there were a lot of different perspective(positive perspective) of how we could understand of human emotion from just 1 episode and help me contemplate of how i feel most of my time. Maybe not masterpiece but it is still beautiful. Thank you for reading. Keep supporting this channel. Hope all of you that struggling in understanding human emotion can slightly understand by watching this anime. PS(i recommend about Oregairu)

If you really enjoy more mature and serious animes like Violet Evergarden, I’d highly suggest you watch A Silent Voice. It’s a masterpiece of the same level by the same studio about anxiety and communication

I wish I could ball my eyes out while watching this. I want to feel every bit of emotions in this show that is been beautifully created. But after my first depression...I just can’t bring myself to cry while watching anything, even if I force myself. I can laugh, be disappointed or be angry but I just can’t cry. I know that the old me would’ve cried. I’m still not sure if I’m over depression yet or not. Anyways the main thing I want to say is that this anime is very beautiful, the voice actors, soundtracks and just the animation. I love the story as well. I’m glad I got to watch this before I die. (Ps: don’t tell me to get help or anything, I’ve heard it many times and it’s really irritating to me)

The show does bring emotions out in people, I also balled my eyes out. I watched it at a pretty vulnerable time in my life as well so it exacerbated it. But its healthy to feel feelings, especially with media, its built from the ground up to make you feel

The one thing you never hear about trauma recovery is that there is no going back to before. Trauma rearranges your life, it changes how you look at yourself and your memories and experiences. You might learn to live with trauma, it can loosen its hold on you, you can deal with the symptoms of it, but it still lives in you. This show made me almost uncomfortable at first, I didn't know how to connect with it because I saw too many things I still hate confronting even after finding a really good therapist. I still feel like I'm learning how to be a person on some days, and I've only recently accepted that there is no "Once this is over." There is no magic thing that'll snap you into being the person you feel like you need to be in order to consider yourself "moved past." Violet never magically becomes the person who she wants to be, she gradually becomes herself. I'm glad I waited until after we watched it to go back and watch this. Going into the series without knowing anything about it was how I needed to experience it, or I would've been hyper aware of the fact that I was going to be watching a show with my friends about PTSD while having PTSD. Instead I just sort of slipped into it. But kept a lot of these thoughts to myself, because it's a lot easier to comment on boob sizes than how much you feel like an alien around other people when you're dealing with trauma.

I’m glad the this was the first anime I ever watched. I think it is a great first watch, and now that i’ve grown up more, I have more feelings that are easily expressed when watching. What I mean is, even almost three years after watching this and being introduced to this artistic community, this show still makes me cry..😁

Pretty late on this video.. but nonetheless, my love for violet evergarden is extraordinary. Every second of the show I enjoyed, and I cried at least once every episode. As much as violet herself is designed to be a somewhat relatable main character like every other anime- I relate to her insanely. I’m autistic, so I really struggle heavily with expressing and understand emotions, yet despite that; I react very strongly to others emotions when I do understand them. Also use to my autism, I often need to be told to do specific things and can't usually just do my own thing. I don't take well to the loss of loved ones and it takes me a long time to time to grieve and accept. But I didnt need to relate to her to enjoy and feel the love for the show that I do- the whole way that its crafted is just.. Wow, where do I even start. You can only mention so many points in this video, I can only mention so many points in my comment- but its honestly shocking at how well the show did and is still doing. And for so many of the fans that love it so much to be the ones who stumbled across it St questionable hours on Netflix or through an upcoming anime article.

I thank you, so, so much, for saying this. I am a teenager. During my younger years that preceded the present, I was interested and fascinated by anime magnificently, indistinguishably to you. I consumed these wonderful medias with an innocent gaze, happily watching these resplendent stories unfold upon screen and weave my inner feelings and emotions into such that made me so incredibly emotional, heartfelt, and achingly, blissfully drawn. When these animes lost touch with me in a mature, emotional sense, similar as to how I found myself nurturing added surfeits of maturity, and increments spent by educating myself on dark, un-amusing topics, I lost in touch with anime, animation, and animated shows, in general. These stories and tales no longer made me feel anything at all. Ridden with fan-service, unnecessary boughts of amusement, and the like. Until I stumbled upon Violet Evergarden, of course. I found it elucidated through to me that, in such a gorgeous, spellbindingly enchanting show, the simple story of understanding yourself and allowing yourself to learn and adapt to foreign concepts, things, and subjects, is beautiful. Every single petite aspect of this show is beautiful, and I was speechless as soon as it ended. The story no doubt delved its way into my heart, reigning victorious over my emotions, and I found myself enamoured with illustrated shows once again in a way that I knew I had felt before, but were hidden away in those secluded shadows of myself all due to increased maturity. Violet Evergarden made me understand, made me remember, what fiction can do and is absolutely capable of doing. Violet Evergarden is a masterpiece. Mental health is a subject I rarely see presented well in anime, and I was so incredibly taken aback by the absolutely wonderful demonstrations of the effects the war had on Violet and the way she views the world around her. It drove me to tears that such a show exists, and is still receiving spectacular, terrific reviews, just as it deserves. I cannot comprehend why some individuals choose to loathe or detest this show. While the story focuses more on character development and mental health, you must grant the composers, illustrators, and story-telling writers with the respect that was granted to them at every single right. Goodness... I adore this show.

this is the definition when talented people joined together to create something that they know was made with their best works. both on the writing side and the animators behind it ( ^^) imagine seperating the animator team and the novel or the writers they are still gud. but together its just like a one in a million event.

Great video, I was just looking for a good anime essay. And now I want to go home and check out this show. I've heard it was good. But you made it sounds great. And I've too been turned off by shows due to those silly scenes. I understand why they are there. And it's hard to find shows that dont have them. But they can mess you up when diving into a serious show. Good job!
