Wow, Freddie! Thanks for sharing your projects! Beautiful music, lots of honey, and two people working on instruments! Keep up the good work everyone! It looks like a race between the Diamond in the Rough and the Green instrument! Love these videos! That honey looks so good! I'll have to visit to taste some of it! Have a great week!

It's good to see a couple of luthier projects in Freddie's section. Best wishes to you both, Lorenzo and Johnny, I hope your work continues well and that you update us on your progress. Thanks, Cheryl, for the bees. I always like to see how they are doing. My neighbour here has a couple of hives, but I feel I'm better acquainted with yours over 3,000 miles away! Looking forward to hearing the Green violin in your next episode. Have a good week!

i'm so glad we have GOD'S natural ''wood'' to produce music on, i have listened to so many of the ''brass'' instruments and skilled people teach ''technique'' and yet all the while they never teach ''tone quality'' and of course the wood instruments we string players have, DO PRODUCE GOOD TON QUALITY AND THE QUALITY OF TONE YOU GET OUT OF THE NATURAL WOOD, IS WHAT MAKEES music so naturally conditioning our souls

Thanks for posting I look forward to your releases. Do you receive many violins that have been graduated to the same thickness over the complete top plate I understand some of the old makers did this as well as some of the current makers' do this. It seems to make more sense to graduate the top plates and back to prescribe thickness patterns. Have you ever tried Prim Medium violin strings? They are made in Sweden are mellow but bright and seem to last forever. Many of the top Texas fiddlers use them. I get mine from International Violin they are reasonably priced. Keep up the good work.

I am so glad you enjoy the channel. We appreciate you too! I tend to graduate the top plate to a mostly uniform thickness depending on the tone, similar to the Italian makers. I don't think I have tried the Prim. I will have to look them up and give them a try. Thanks for mentioning that. Hope you have a great week!

The 'Hebrew Minute' is Psalm 31:24. What a fun video. I love your organ hymn, Mr. Pinch! What a lovely old church and organ. Lorenzo has an excellent repair ahead - that is serious worm-damage! Johnny's double bass will look lovely. Was the Green violin's finger board rosewood, rather than ebony? Wishing you a great week, Cheryl. Stupidicus.
@Violinsforu2
@Violinsforu2 Жыл бұрын
Yes the fingerboard was rosewood as far as I can tell. You got the Hebrew Minute! I agree that the repairs in Freddie's corner are tough! And we need more recordings from Mr. Pinch, or maybe he can come to America and be our organist!!! Thanks for your faithful comments and hope you have a wonderful week!

Around 8:50 you seem to be applying a coat of shellac to the inside of the instrument. I'm interested to learn what purpose this serves, as it is not always done, at least not in the violins I have owned (and I have opened a few).
@Violinsforu2
@Violinsforu2 Жыл бұрын
Hi Mr Thetaphi, Thanks for asking. This is a very thin coat of dissolved lac which helps to preserve the wood and keep away insects. It is an all natural preservative and is something that my mentor passed on to me. From my experience, it improved the tone also. Hope that helps and have a wonderful week!
@MrThetaphi
@MrThetaphi Жыл бұрын
Thank you, Cheryl! I knew that shellac keeps away insects when apllied to drawers of old furniture (and makes a pleasant surface to touch), and I appreciate your notion that it also improves the tone of an instrument. Keep going with your good work, I always enjoy it!

I've heard of luthiers that take days to chalk-fit bassbars. How do you get it done so quickly?
@Violinsforu2
@Violinsforu2 Жыл бұрын
Yes! It used to take me a bit long, sometimes a whole day! But I guess practice makes it much faster. I have fit and cut over 100 bassbars, so it usually takes just a couple of hours now, and then of course, on the video, I speed it up, and then breathe a sigh of relief that if only it was that fast!!! Thank you so much for commenting and I hope you have a wonderful week!
