Good day Susanna. Is it possible to mark the bow distribution on the sheet music with special signs as a memory tool? Do you have specific signs for each part of the bow and what are they? Thank you.

Hi MNK Kiki - I'm not aware of an official way, but I do often make markings in my music in an improvised way: I use an s with a circle around it (like the @ sign but with an s) for saving or slow bow, UH for upper half, MID for the middle, LH for lower half. The word fast for fast bow. Sometimes for teaching, I make a photocopy of the music and we mark it up with all sorts of crazy directions for practice, but then go back to a clean copy (bowings and fingerings only) for performance. I had a student who had a whole color coded system, which was kind of fun. Hope that helps.

forgot to add that I sometimes mark fractions, like 1/4 for how much bow something gets...
