As others have said, it's on the poppy side. They have a lot of much heavier stuff. I recommend "Angreifer" over "Black Pentagram".

This song is from their last album, which is more a rock album, and this song is the poppest they have done, or radio friendly song. I always had the feeling this was their proving they could do a pop/rock song if they wanted to. The singer Fuki was channeling her inner kawii, for this, as she does not normally sing this way, she is say normally more operatic then this. Unlucky Morpheus do have the habit of playing around where genre's are concerned, but they are also a band that will do things because they can. There is so much talent in this band it stupid, the violinist, Jill, has more talent then 1/2 of the bands around today, she is one of the best in the world, but likes to play rock/metal. Only heard a couple of their songs, the others I have heard are heavier. This is good, but I like the others better. Black Pentagram is one of the ones I have heard, think you'll like that more too.

That was a rather unfortunate pick for the first contact with the band, since it's by far their poppiest song. I concur with the recommendation of the live version of Black Pentagram. If you want to see an example of their great musicianship, you need to experience the band QUADRATUM which is made up of 4 of the Unlucky Morpheus musicians - Jill on violin. Jinya on Guitar, Ogawa on bass and Fumiya on drums (he is an absolute beast). There is a video of them doing a cover of Van Halen's Eruption and Dream Theater's The Dance of Eternity live, back to back. I saw EVH perform Eruption live in the summer of 1979, and this rendition is just as amazing in my opinion. I second the suggestion to look at Quadratum. Everything they have posted is mind-blowing. I'm not as sold on Black Pentagram--I think Angreifer is better, but then I'm a Jill fanatic--I think she is what takes the band from amazing to another level altogether, and Angreifer shows her off better. But everything they do is top notch.

Japan has so many great bands. Fuki is a great vocalist as well. I have another really cool singer for you as well. Her name is Maki Oyama. Shes just released a new album and tracks like Over the Wall and My only Hero are really good.

This 1 is 1 of their poppier song, I do recommend you listen to their live stuff over the MV even if the MV are fun to watch, only exception to that rule would be Cadaver/Revadac, that 1, check out the MV with the sheet music, you will thank me for suggesting that version over the regular one. As for Black Pentagram, the live from "XIII" live at Toyosu PIT is my own personal favorite cause of the interaction of the band with themselves plus, it was the last song of the show. Other great ones live are Dignity or spirit, Dead leaves rising, Tower of the blood and so many. If you really want to go the MV route, on top of Cadaver/Revadac, there is Unending Sorceress that I love, it is about the game Final Fantasy 8 (Shiren's favorite game, he is the guitarist on the right and writes all the music, he is the equivalent of Miyako, just a genius but he does play more instruments than her)

Not my favorite either, but they do a *lot* of styles. Off the same album there is the Black Death Mansion Murders, quite a lot heavier. But over the years they've done thrashy, poppy, jazzy, heavy, you name it. It's always really good technical playing, but the probability that you love *every* song is slim, they're just too varied for that. I enjoy them all, but obviously I do have my favorites, mostly from the Vampire EP, but they have a metric ton of awesome tracks, and some that really are just *nice* :) As with pretty much every japanese band, live footage is almost always on another level, something to keep in mind.

To my ancient nervous system, this sounds MUCH better with playback speed set at .75. I do that with a lot of content from post-millenials to avoid aspirin intake. It works really well. Of course, when it's a reaction channel like this, and somebody like you -- who doesn't have to google where the Vietnam War was fought -- comes on afterward, they sound a little drunk. ••• Thanks! Glad you checked them but you need to try an heavier song 🤣 comments below suggested good ones 😁 and if you have time check the song covers without Fuki as voice and Jill violin as the main protagonist :D Live are a beast, as many japanese bands, Fuki is into many projects and love her uncommon vooice, anyway you need to know that this what i call an "otaku band" because many songs are videogames related and if things are not changed they auto produce themselfs, because of that was very difficult to get the Albums outside Japan.

Yep, check out Black Pentagram or Unending Sorceress. Definitely heavier. Also Cadaver/Revadac where the 2nd half are the notes of the 1st half played backwards. They describe themselves a technical melodic speed metal band. Some of their latest stuff like Amaryllis is rather tame. Also check out their violinist Jill's covers of Van Halen's "Eruption" and Yngwie Malmsteen's "Far Beyond the Sun". The vocalist Fuki paired up with Gacharic Spin to form the band Doll$boxx when Gacharic Spin had lost their vocalist and was sort of on hiatus. A heavier sound than the usual GS sound. They recently announced that Fuki and GS are doing some more Doll$boxx together. Guitarist Shiren also does harsh vocals, sometimes only vocals because of a problem with the tendons in his hands. And some trivia. Babymetal's backing band, the Kami band, are basically session musicians. Shiren was briefly in one of the very early versions of the Kami band. Also in one early iteration of the Kami band they had a woman violinist. So not only Unlucky Morpheus and East of Eden.

I hoped no one would spoil the punch of Cadaver/Revadac. That is why I wrote to watch the one with the sheet music and seeing the reaction when it happens is so much fun but when people expect it, it doesn't have the same impact

@@rakjr6 That is exactly why I suggest the one with the sheet music, even if someone can't read it, the way it happens on the screen is intuitive, for example, my daughter looked at me at that point and said: Wait, is that what I am thinking of?
