Just remember though that nobody outside of the netherlands would have heard of young emma if Barbara Pravi had not sat down one day at the piano and written this song. Songwriters are usually in the shadows while the players get all the plaudits. This is a beautiful, powerful, tormented, desperate song which is all about being human and just wanting people to acknowledge them I love both interpretations and i am grateful that this song was written

Barbara Pravi's version is beautiful and intense because she is the author and she is an adult woman but Emma's version in Maastricht 2023, with the large orchestra and choir is wonderful and next level! Emma is exceptional, she enchants the audience and transmits emotion to everyone, she is young but she has already felt pain in life, she is small but she stands on stage like a giant! The enthusiasm and applause of the Maastricht orchestra and choir testifies to this. However, tastes are personal and they are all valid.

You are so right about taste. As much as I feel for Emma and her situation IMO this is not a song for a 16 year old young woman. In part possibly simply because Emma appears very child like. I respect her right to perform such a beautiful song and she surely gave her best. However personally I was not able to feel pulled into the emotion of the song as when Barbara sings it. Observing the audience duriing the performance that you reference to though definately verifies your last sentence. In the end it is only of importance that each fo us enjoys the rendition that one prefers. Have a good day.

I know nothing about her story (which seems to be very sad from what I’m gathering) or how she got her start on YT/the media/with that conductor guy lol, all I know is that Barbara is the original artist for this song (I think lol) and Emma’s cover a year later is more popular…. Which is actually kinda sad to me bc I went to the comments expecting to see this lady’s flowers and all I saw were comparisons so of course I had to check out this Emma person’s cover. Was thoroughly impressed by her technique and engaged the whole performance of course but the emotion just wasn’t there for me. I wasn’t enthralled the way I was during THIS performance. It’s so sad to see comparisons in this video and nothing but praise in the comments of the other one. Idk this version/performance is severely underrated and needs more props

I share your opinion. If I listen to music, I am not interested in the story and appearance of the performer, I close my eyes and listen. The above performance does not appeal to me, it is a typical performance of a craftsman - there is no soul in it, I did not even listen to the end of the piece, because I heard screaming and a downright hysterical woman. However, listening to Emma's performance I felt the speech of a divine soul. Perfect performance Emmy, the little Angel touches the souls of mortals with her subtle shade of blue. The beauty flowing from Emma's soul is a substitute for God, it is felt by people endowed with a soul - a gift from God. Well, this message is directed to beings with a higher level of spirituality. The song found the right channel of Divine destiny in Emma's voice.

Je ne comprends toujours pas pourquoi Barbara Pravi n'a pas gagné l'eurovision en 2021. Et l'interpretation en direct est encore meilleure que sur le disque. Quelle interprète à tripe. J'en ai la chaire de poule. On ne peut que vous comparer à Piaf Ferré Brel. Pas en dessous. J'adore les autres titres de l'album et j'ai hâte que vous passiez à Clermont Ferrand ou alentour. I do not understand a word of French (I have of course seen/heard Barbara's video with translation). I must say from all the cover versions I have witnessed I find that absolutely no one performs it as emotionial as her original. A pleasure to enjoy it each time Barbara shares her feelings with us. The original video is very well made as well. With that ... Voilá !

I love both versions. They give me very different emotions. I love Barbara's passion and authenticity that immerses me into the song. I also love Emma's delicate voice, the lyrics seems to fit her life story and heighten the emotions. They both have utterly amazing voices and i could listen to them both all day... Bravo❤
