I still feel like the lower slung sleds from the past handle very well on smooth trails even today but on bumpy trails that is when your back takes a beating with the older suspensions. The other issue with the old iron was getting them to hook up, they tended to spin and trench a lot.
@fwhiteification2 жыл бұрын
Your absolutely right the suspension on older sleds 🛷 beat you up and there’s very little support for these old school Polaris machines suspension wise…motors and big bore kits are available but suspension components aren’t
@davidbrennan52 жыл бұрын
@@fwhiteification I don't think it would be too hard to add a modern rear suspension but the front would need a long arm kit with new shocks longer radius rods longer tie rod ends longer sway bar ends etc... but then your cornering would suffer. I wonder what the max shock length the stock front end of a gen 2 or edge would take?

used to be a guy by the name of Tom Hartman, INC out of Nampa Idaho. He was an older yamaha triple specialist. Unforfunaly he is not in business anymore but while he was, I installed his 136" kit. It came with sprocket, drivers, weights etc.. The Boss seat makes a heck of a difference as well as a 4" riser. Dont forget the 3rd engine mount to keep clutch alignment , that was an OEM option.

In tried my XTC 700 triple on an American 1/4 mile radar ( had to pay ) and i topped my speed at half the 1/4 mile at 97 mph ! now it s older so i m sure it can t top that same speed ! Before my XTC i had a SRX 700 and traded it for the XTC i have now ! it s a 1998 in good shape ! I changed the seat, heated handles, track, wheel bearings, carbides, and a few repairs ! it s sleeping in my storage unit in Edmonton but i m back in Quebec ! this spring i wanna get all my stuff from my storage and bring that here so i can ride my sled ! we hsave great trails here ! they say # 1 trails in Canada ! I know a few years ago the trail pass was over 300 $ ! but it s worth it if you use it often ! if you wanna ride 1 or 2 week-end it might be better to bye a week-end pass ! if you don t bye a pass you can get caught ! lots of police on the trails ! they stand at junctions and you don t have a choice ! they check everyone passing there ! alcool is tolerance 0 and no pass well you get a ticket or and need to bye the pass ! 😎🥶

One of the key advantages the XC 700 (and Polaris in general) had over all other brands at the time was clutching. The Polaris clutching was by far the most efficient and dialed-in from the factory of all the brands. Clutching efficiency typically provides far more advantage than modest differences in horsepower. The other factor is traction, and I always found the Polaris rear suspension in those years hooked up better than Yamaha’s did. In short runs, that XC700 is going to be hard to beat with similar HP sleds, but if you run it on the lake for top end, the Viper should easily outrun it, assuming the engine and clutching is in good shape. I own two Vipers, one 2002 and another 2003. The ‘02 is one of the exceptional ones - it was faster than any other Viper I’ve ever come across. Bone stock it runs 107-108 mph on radar on hardback lake conditions (not even plowed). The ‘03 isn’t quite as fast but it’s mint - it only has about 2000 km on it!
@thegodfreyspecial423 Жыл бұрын
I've seen a few Vipers with 20k on original top ends that are still vicious in a straight line - Yamaha nailed it on that engine. The red-head triples sound better but the black top engines are leaps and bound ahead in design.
