I'm just an ignorant American watching this video for god knows why but something that sticks out to me is how this frustration translates to even American politics. Like I didn't understand but at the same time, I totally understand, it was kind of crazy. That said even though you're a comedian I really like that doesn't mean I'm just gonna nod my head and agree with everything you said. The last time I checked Hinduism is twice as old as Christianity and Islam. I'm not gonna sit here and say Hinduism is the originator of religious violence because I'm not 4,000 years old. I just don't think it's possible that Christianity created the blueprint to something that humans have done to each other over a slice of bread let alone a piece of religious text. If you consider the history of Hinduism , there have been 3 stages ; ancient hinduism , medieval hinduism and modern hinduism . So the ancient one is believed to not be like a religion , it was more of a common culture of people of the Indian subcontinent. When religions started developing around the world , Hinduism upgraded to a more religious tone. So in ancient India , people had common texts - they were just " Indian texts " not " Hindu texts "- and as more invaders and people settled in india , they called the people of india " hindus" . So what i point out is that " there was no such thing as hinduism a religion " until major present day religions developed around the world . Coz it was when ancient Indians interacted with them that hinduism took a religious tone .

I wrote a lot) Well if we’re gonna bring up context for the video it’s pretty obvious the theme of the entire of video is “I may sprinkle a little joke material in this but I am 100% serious”. In fact now that I think about it you could could describe a lot of Vir Das’s stand up that way (with various percentages of serious). With that in mind I’ll take on your religious point of argument. First even with the most conservative estimate the Vedas are 1000-1200 years old. They are CLEAR religious text not just some collection of old stories. Secondly what you are trying to say is Hinduism wasn’t an *organized religious group. To say it was not a religion in ancient times would be a highly erroneous statement to make. Now when it comes to Christianity specifically who are we talking about? Should we focus on the Catholics, Lutheran, Anglican, Methodist, Baptist or Protestants faiths? I say that because other than one, the others are at most 400 years old. Side note you realize the logic you used for early Hinduism also applies to early Christianity? Although the “culture” bit was a bit off the rest still applies it wasn’t organized until MUCH later. Now back to what I was saying. Which is that Christianity isn’t really all that old. Islam is even newer then the prior 2 discussed religions. In fact taking from what Vir Das said it’s Islam who probably learned from early Christians and early Hindus. Of course personally I disagree with the notion entirely. It’s all violence in the name of personal gain. The same clothes with different colors. People end up dead whatever you wish to call it.

​@@kingjamestres First of all "gods" mentioned in vedas are not "gods" as the way the word is used today. They were actually used to define cosmic energies according to science in that time. Vedic gods are different to the gods in hinduism today, let alone the abrahamic ones. So, Vedas is not a religious book. Its actually quite far away from that. Ideas in vedas were not strict instructions (like in bible) that only a believer can follow.. Vedas wasn't based on making someone to believe in gods like bible.. So the point in the video is that this idea of tying people in the name of religion and using it as a political power irrespective of geography, started with Christianity. And they were kind of the OGs in doing violence in the name of "religion". The sanskrit word we use is Hindu dharma.. And the definition of dharma is nowhere similar to definition of "religion".. but people still used it as if both were same.. Sanatana dharma became hindu dharma to hinduism religion in due course of time and most likely got inspired from abrahamic faiths.

Vir, I respect you so much. I am currently a teenager who will get their right to vote in 2 more years. But to be honest, I feel like even if I got my right to vote, there is no authority left to support. Most people my age, are clearly able to decipher the dire state our country is in. It is disheartening but at the same time it was visible from far away. I just hope that when we get the right to vote, they matter and they have a value greater than what it is today.
