I’m empathetic to the fires in LA but here are the facts. Feel free to fact check my post. LA Mayor Karen Bass left LA and went to Africa when the threat was announced. She’s still there and now her city burns after she cut $17M from the firefighters budget. Gov. Newsom did not authorize the tanker planes until the winds were too high for them to fly. The hydrants have run dry. All the rain they had over the last four years was not diverted to the reservoirs for future use. Instead it was allowed to run off into the San Joaquin River and into the ocean trying protect a fish (the delta smelt). And the state refuses to build more desalination plants to make more water. They need better leadership.

There was water from the storms last year; the atmospheric rivers filled up the reservoirs in Central California where LA gets its water. You don't have to worry about water in future years because toilet to tap is back. They're planning on running treated sewage through a treatment plant and delivering that water to the western part of the city. I'm guessing the problem in the Palisades is one of infrastructure. In winter months, the water department probably fills up the water tanks only partially because people don't use very much water and you don't want the water sitting in tank for an extended period. There probably wasn't enough tanks to meet fire demands when they're only partially filled. Basically, they need more water storage (water tanks) in the area.

A Super Scooper fire fighter tanker plane costs 30 million dollars. California could buy 2000 of them for what this fire is going to directly cost, not to mention indirect losses like jobs, taxes etc. They could buy only 100 of them at a fraction of what these fires cost California every year. Of course if they could clear out the brush and leaves and do periodic burns and these catastrophic fires wouldn't happen. Now instead of paying for minimal infrastructure using California taxes, they will go to the Feds and the rest of the country will have to bail them out.
