People didn't suddenly drink all day and the US didn't descend into chaos. Legalizing drugs has downsides of course, but I think they are far outweighed by reducing criminality surrounding drug dealing and makes drugs much safer and less harmful. It also helps people wanting to stop their addiction, as they are not seen as criminals at the same time.

That the latter point is actually true doesn't change the fact that they way she got to it is bonkers. Remittances don't say anything about govt roles, govt certainly plays a much larger role in employment in the US than in Latin America. She's ironically making the opposite of the point she thought she was, and that is putting aside that the next thing she says is all you need is rule of law, which typically requires a govt.

One of the most inspiring people I know is a Guatemalan man who departed his country to find opportunity in the U.S. He left home with little more than the clothes on his back. He was beaten and left for dead by Mexican robbers, but even that failed to stop him. Arriving Stateside, he worked multiple odd jobs, finally saving enough to start his own small business which is now so successful. This humble and kind gentleman is much respected in our community. His good nature, hard work, and determination are blessing everyone who knows him!
