So in this innings, Kohli chose to score all the runs by boundaries only. Difficult to digest that in another innings of the same series, he scored 160* out of which 100 came from running between the wicket. Amazing stuff.

Let me tell you why? South Africa scored only 204 and to defend this very low score, they chose to keep extremely attacking fields like not keeping deep cover point fielder of fast bowlers for a long time even after 10th over, not keeping even basic 3rd man fielder initially and instead going with 2 slips and a gully and keeping mid off fielder instead of long off when spinner Imran Tahir was bowling so Virat made full use of those attacking fields as he was already in great form in that series.

I don't know if anyone else noticed that he had a comparatively shorter front foot stride during those days. Since 2019 he has increasingly preferred a much bigger stride and front foot based game in general. It has really dried up his run scoring options on the off side from the backfoot especially in test matches overseas.
