the thinking stone, one of the most beautifull pieces ever written!
@TravisOrbin10 жыл бұрын
Aside from the snare--which is probably just tuned higher than normal--his tones haven't changed much to my ear, proving that it's all in his touch/technique. Virg is one of the few that still makes me giggle and jump out of my seat like I'm a teenager.
@RocknJazzer10 жыл бұрын
I think his sound is improved here...more classic and full on the toms, and the snares killer...more meaty
@PearlGroove10 жыл бұрын
I think that is why he went to DW. He switched to clear ambassadors for the toms and coated ambassadors for the snares for a more open tone. With Pearl that is tough to accomplish due to the drums and hardware being heavy. DW is a lighter thinner drum which lends more to the open tunings.
@as5a9009 жыл бұрын
progjazzfusion I agree, I heard the difference right away, Virgil and DW are a great match, especially for the way he plays, the drums have more power and presence. Sorry, Pearl...
@shawnhenderson38399 жыл бұрын
Travis Orbin What people seem to miss is that Pearl can make anything that an artist wants...thickness, material, size, hardware, etc...smae as DW. But I like his sound as it's evolving more and more.

I know it's all personal preference and stuff, but the only thing I like about Virgil's move to DW is there's a good chance we get some super-polished Virgil videos from them.
@Champane9710 жыл бұрын
This whole thing about Virgil abandoning Pearl drums & going for DW is just wasted space as far as I'm concerned. Any musician & that includes Virgil can use whatever he wants. And for those that know Virgil's history, he's always been about moving forward both in his drumming techniques, compositions & his ever changing drum sounds. Though I agree with Tom that at least DW will make great pro-shot videos of Virgil, that is if Virgil wants them to..
@Spratt866 жыл бұрын
Also, DW make some SERIOUSLY good sounding drums. Their attention to quality is so high and their shells sound so pure. Having said that, I still play Pearl drums because I enjoy the hardware and the specific feel and tone I get from them. DW make good drums. How could you disagree ?

Not that it really makes a great deal of difference, but I think the Pearl drums sounded a bit more open. DW's always seem to sound a bit dead to me. A nice sound to work with if you want an easy mix, but not much sparkle or resonance. Just my opinion though. Whatever Virgil plays will sound awesome.
@SteliosSioulas10 жыл бұрын

Its missing that little donati tone moving from Pearl.
@AquaAnim10 жыл бұрын
This could also depend on the recording etc. Im sure Donati wouldn't join a company that wouldn't represent his sound. That and gear is like religion. Pearl or DW Donati is defined by himself not the gear he uses.

Nice thought, but cultural different maybe too great to be accepted. DT is like an old mold culturally not worldly. When he tried to improvise some fill breaks they clearly didn't like that saying he should have stuck to old fill which is BS. It is they themself couldn't adapt. VD could have given DT a very fresh blood and style of drumming. Same thing goes if it was MM or Thomas Lang. Too bad for DT, though Mike Mangni is a great person and drummer, but not quite fit IMO

+GamerDares wins I have a Pearl kit at home (love it more than any drum kit ever), although Tama and DW have some good sounding stuff as well; just listen to Simon Phillips (TAMA) or Neil Peart (DW). That being said, I still think Pearl is higher up on the quality scale than other brands.
