Dick Griffey wasn't too pleased when Suge decided in going with Jimmy Iovine to further establish DEATH ROW RECORDS. Imagine DEATH ROW stayed under SOLAR? It would've given the label a whole 'nother legacy.
So Chocolate 100k got broken down immediately by Suge.

Man this is a dope interview Vlad. I love listening to an interview and being able to learn something from it - especially in regards to the music industry. I'm a music producer and I read a book in the past titled "Everything You Need To Know About The Music Business", so all of this makes sense to me. The only problem with the music industry is that it's one of the most rapidly changing industries. You can read the latest a edition of a book and it can be heavily outdated within a few weeks. Thanks for posting.

I get what he is saying. He probably was sitting there when the story came out laughing shaking his head like "That Ole Sugar Bear". Suge probably heard him saying their plan to present the evidence to EMI and if they didn't they would sue. He probably told Suge that there would be no way of them winning the case. Suge seems like the kind of guy, knowing that information, that would then round up some guys on some mob stuff to go see Ice, knowing that the guys around him as well as Vanilla Ice and his guys wouldn't know any better. So after making him sign the letter, and this man working behind the scenes to bring the money in, it would make it seem like Suge's was the mobster that shook him down. One thing Suge did though is understand how to align himself with smart, professional people.

@deredevil3415 Жыл бұрын
Stupid ass nigga did you not just hear the man say they sued the record label with proof he wrote the song? Along with other songs on the album. And before vanilla ice was signed they gave Johnson credit for the music he did. The big record label thought they could get away with not paying him and they had to pay him back. If you think the court system and judges were just “quick to believe” him and not have him provide proof then you’re a fuckin idiot. But if I explained it well enough to you and now you understand and change your stance then I apologize

Suge by other people as witnesses have said he tried to intimidate people, etc. It might be fiction but it doesn’t “sound” like it’s probably fiction. Who knows
@ethanrobertson30083 жыл бұрын
If it wasn't fiction why did Virgil say that he and Dick still had to sue EMI to get Chocolate publishing? This is why Virgil said he doesn't believe the story of Suge hanging Vanilla Ice over the balcony and making him sign over publishing. And years ago I remember watching a interview Vanilla Ice did admitting that it never occurred.

The Vanilla Ice story is totally overblown. Vanilla Ice was not properly giving credit to the co-writer, a guy named Chocolate (and that's a hint they were once together... his stage name is opposite Vanilla Ice's... of course they wrote it together). Although Chocolate claims he was the sole writer of the lyrics to Ice Ice Baby. Anyway... Suge did NOT just randomly decide to muscle Vanilla Ice and rob him of his royalties. That's the bs story Vanilla Ice perpetuated (to cover for stealing credit Chocolate). In another Vlad interview... Mob James (Death Row leg-breaker/goon) screws this story up. Because he says Chocolate did not write the song. But in yet another interview, Mob James said he really doesn't know if he did or didn't write the song. Additionally, another Death Row goon claims Mob James wasn't even present during the infamous hotel meeting. If Suge had just randomly stolen Vanilla Ice's royalties through intimidation/extortion... It would be so easy for Vanilla Ice to just hire lawyers and get it back. And Suge would've known attempting to force someone to pay him something they truly own would never work. If Suge did just steal Vanilla Ice's credit, why would Suge stop with just him? He'd steal from many other artists, too. But he didn't. Because it's dumb, wouldn't work, and never happened. Vanilla Ice knew he was stealing. And that's why he caved and signed and never attempted to get anything back.
@skepchica11 ай бұрын
Thank you. Signing over royalties to a stranger then doing nothing makes NO sense. Being presented with undeniable evidence and signing then knowing you had no argument does. Use your head.

nope....15 million...I was close to Tommy (Ice's Manager) & various producers who worked on the Album/CD....here's your proof: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/To_the_Extreme
@morbidchid7 жыл бұрын
Awesome that you worked with Quon and producers. Which ones? Khayree? DeShay? Earthquake? Darryll Williams? Would love to hear some more about that. The record reached 10 million copies in 1991. In 1992, it had reached 11 million copies. In 1998, it had reached 15 million copies. People kept buying it. When Ice releases his album 'Platinum Underground', he mentions on wax that the album has now reached 28 million copies sold. People shouldn't really use Wikipedia as a source. People also dismiss WORLDWIDE sales when talking about To the Extreme. That album was no. 1 all over Asia and Europe.

Has a white person ever wrote a song? This all might be news to the college graduate prodigies working for the record companies who really write the songs. See, the execs have learned we’re racist. We prefer spending money on performers who are just like us. Why no one over 35 can somehow ever write a song. . Or whatever age it is people stop buying music. That, or all these artist somehow become worse songwriters, terrible songwriters, when they get old. 15, you’re comparable to Beethoven. . . 35. . .after spending 20 years, not only mastering performance, but spending 20 years writing songs. . You’re no good anymore at writing songs.
