Finally 25years later i found this masterpiece. The Day After was the reason why.

As someone else mentioned, Thomson, along with Copland, seemed to give voice to a type of American Social Realism that still resonates today. There's a kind of firm honesty about the music that really appeals to me. Superb quality recording by the L.A. Chamber Orchestra under Marriner.

As someone who grew up in the South, I encourage anyone who has not seen it to watch the film for which this music was written. This was part of FDR's New Deal and lifted hundreds of thousands, if not millions, out of poverty, including many families I grew up knowing. Many see the movie as propaganda, but it has some very forward thinking that is sadly lacking in today's political discourse. My mother introduced me to the music first and then to the movie. It puts some emotion to the superb music that Thomson wrote.

Both the theatrical cut, and the 3 hour rough cut that is on Archive.org (archive.org/details/The_Day_After_1983_rough_cut_dvd9/VIDEO_TS/VTS_01_1.VOB) brought me here. :D (Shame said rough cut had so much good stuff that was taken out of the final movie.)
