Personally wouldn’t trade him for any centre back in world football, he’s exactly what Liverpool have needed. A real dominant centre back, a beast in the air, wins more headers then any prem defender but doesn’t just header every ball back at the opponent rather passes it to a team mate while winning the Ariel dual turning defence back into attack, light on his feet, world class in one on one situations against an attacker, brilliant at switching and spreading the ball, organises the defence, a leader that brings calmness to the back line while making other defenders along side him look better then what they are. We were all over the place defensively until he came in, conceding 28 goals in the prem before signing him in January then going on to only concede 10 after he came in. Over the moon about him and hopefully will be even better now that we have a world class keeper behind the big man.

Show me the Mane i can see ur a true liverpool fan..may i suggest to you Mathijs de Ligt...he will (in time) be even better...they are our defensive duo in the Dutch team...hes only 18 but a beast..and a leader as well...youngest captain in Ajax historie...when he was 15 he already was as big as a senior player...check him out...if Liverpool are able to sign him that would be the best signing they make in years.

@Samual Hubert: In what area is Varane better? As for Ramos, he leaves his position to disrupt the opponent. This leaves a big gap behind to exploit. He's notorious for having those brainfarts. Ramos is a good header of the ball, but not as strong. VVD utlizes his bodystrength to overpower his opponent with clean play. Ramos lunges more which is fine, but not as clean and with more risk. VVD is also faster and a better leader: Singlehandedly improved the entire liverpool defense that consists of playera that are prone to errors. But Ramos definately is one of the best in the world, nobody can argue his defensive skills, notably his vision to anticipate and intercept. I just don't like his dark defensive arts. I wonder if it's just his character to play so dirty or that he's compensating for something else.

Ramos needs to resort to dirty play to achieve neutralizing his opponent. So he is compensating for something he lacks. VVD dominates with his strength, something Ramos is not known for.
