I bought this on vinyl when it first came out, after hearing "Children Of The Storm" on U.S. Metal Vol.1 from Shrapnel Records. I expected more unique songs like "Children Of The Storm," but was disappointed that the rest was more like second-rate early Judas Priest meets early Riot. I never really listened to this all the way through, and just kind of shelved the album.

@@gabi.m.hshshs8913 It's not 'one of the best in history," that's ridiculous. I've been around this music since the mid 70's and have heard 10's of thousands of albums. If you like it, fine, but very few people in metal consider this album to be all that good.

I like it better than House of Atreus I and II--I've listened to their other stuff on youtube only once or twice, so my opinion is not that firm, but my first impression is that the vocals on this album are the best but that the instrumentation might be better on some other albums like Noble Savage.
@metalhawk66
@metalhawk66 8 жыл бұрын
if you are mostly a fan of hard rock stuff, i guess you will enjoy this album way more than epic and symphonic albums like Invictus, House of Atreus etc! But as about the vocals, ohh come on mate, even David himself had admitted that his vocals were very "immature" back then...

I am a huge metal fan--I listen from bands ranging from Dio to Uriah Heep to Bathory to Slayer to Alestorm to Venom to King Diamond, and some of them have been called epic, power, or symphonic metal. It's not like I dislike later Virgin Steele--I just felt a certain energy and thrill from this album that I never felt from their other albums. I went through a ten year period where I listened to House of Atreus twice a month, and I always appreciated it but as I became exposed to more and more heavy metal bands I eventually found that Virgin Steele didnt' really give me the energy and thrill that a lot of other metal bands give me

They became better since the second album and onward, their best albums are from the nineties to the first ten years of the 21 century, the last great album came out in 2010, i love also their latest album from 2018, as a debut album it was good enough, when one is listening to this album and then to their masterpieces he'll realise that they turned to be the best american power metal band of all times, thanks for sharing.

Thats true . Many fresh Bands nowadays have way too tame guitar sounds that could have more biting when it has the old sound quality of the 80s . But this could be a skill-problem that guitar-players dont stylisticly go into a melody without sounding so flat or boring .

Início ultra cru da banda - inclusive na produção. Excesso de gritinhos dispensáveis em David Defeis... Maioria da músicas apenas razoáveis - "Children Of The Storm" salva-se. Inclusive (muito bem) regravada em 2001, reaparecendo no ano seguinte no álbum THE BOOK OF BURNING. "Dead End Kids" também é boa. Esse primeiro deles não curto muito, quando estavam ainda em busca de rumo... Mas o tempo ratificou a capacidade da banda à frente, felizmente.

This album is really kool, Dead End Kids is awesome! Its gotta a proper groove the album too! Not just a ten a penny Power Metal album about slaying beasts, it has a street feel to it. If this is such a terrible debut then i can only imagime what a good debut is! For a first attempt of a slab, i don't think many would be dissapointed if this was their bands first output! Better band than Manilla Road thats for sure!
