I grew up in Virginia Beach. I remember driving past the trash dump and watching all the seagulls flying in to feed. It was so amazing watching as it grew into the only hill in Virginia Beach and a great park.

I used to live there too. In Cali now. Love both places but I do miss those quiet walks on the boardwalk on a sunny day in the winter months. Great therapy for the soul.

I loved there 94-97 when I was stationed there. Hated winters in Va more than Indiana winters. The wind is a killer. Neptune wasn’t there when I lived there

We to visit off season! It's cheaper, and less crowded. We prefer the ocean view room as oposed to sitting on the beach, anyway. And we just bundle up for walks.

Love it. The beach is beautiful, no matter the season.

Me too! I try and go every 2 or 3 years in mid October and the weather typically great and crowds are not large at all.

I was stationed in Norfolk from 81 to 85 and due to my ships deployment cycle I mostly only saw the area in the Winter. I used to love heading over to Virginia Beach during that time and just walking along the boardwalk and checking out what businesses were still open. There were still a lot of those mom and pop hotels around back then and some stayed open through the Winter, you could get a room for the weekend dirt cheap.

VA Beach is so close to the NC border and the Seasons are pretty mild.

There was a time when during the winter, the only place open was Worrell Brothers and a couple of Restaurants. LOL

Hardly ever snows but, when it does, it usually melts the next day. City has next to no snow removal equipment, though, so, when it does snow heavy (like once every 5 or 10 years), you're in for a siege, unless it warms up and melts the next day (typical).

I was just visiting VA Beach in October for the first time since 2017. The one thing I observed is the huge increase in the number of homeless out on the streets. A lot of them were kind of aggressive in their panhandling.
@The_A_Cast Жыл бұрын
I went there for the first time in years back in July 2022 and I agree the homelessness has increased dramatically!

VB in winter? That's easy: usually cold, windy, gray, and some sort of drizzling rain. Inland from the ocean front, its like any place else in the winter, but the ocean front area is comparatively empty with lots of free space to do whatever. The OF doesn't become a boarded up ghost town--most things are open year-round. There's just no crowds and the weather sux. Lived there for 20 years. April and May are nice, though lots of rain; June is a beautiful month; July and August are nice, too, but the heat and humidity get high; fall is sweet, but between roughly November and early April is mostly raw, weather-wise.

Hi Shintill. I was thinking of retiring out in that area. Is Sandbridge beach a nice quiet place? I love the beach, but not the crowds as much...
@NathanFostr6 жыл бұрын
Sandbridge is very very nice. There is a little tourism there in the summer but it is nothing compared to what you would expect at the beach.
