When we lived in Nevada, we visited Virginia City when they were having their centennial celebration. At that time the Bonanza series was real popular on TV and Adam Cartright from the show was there. It was a lot of fun visiting there. I remember it being high up in the mountains.

I was in Reno and I didn't visit this place...😭 by the way,, I think these traditions, with the whip and these bells.. we do exactly the same in our old traditions in Tirol in the Alps.. I think because a few hundred years ago these cowboys are from Tirol.😉.

Nice souvenir of a fun day at the Ranch. What's that little "red thing" the cowboy was riding? Ben and "the boys" would be quite surprised! Long may they rest in peace. Thanks for sharing. Virginia City looks so "old"! What fun!

OK, let's try this slowly. To get to Virginia City from Reno, you have to go SOUTH on Hwy 395, and then turn off on the Geiger Grade. Virginia City is up in the hills, SOUTHEAST of Reno. Their so-called map shows it slightly NORTHEAST of Reno. Actually, that's East-North-East, being almost due east, but slightly to the north. Then there's the other problem. The Ponderosa Dude Ranch was located on the eastern shore of Lake Tahoe. Now Lake Tahoe is South of Reno, but also a long ways to the WEST. Pull up a map and look at it yourself. The map drawn above is full of crap! -- Bob

That MAP from the TV Show Bonanza, is so screwed up it's unbelievable! First, Virginia City is not northeast of Reno; it's southeast of Reno. The place they've got it in the map is roughly where the Mustang Ranch (house of ill repute) once stood. And if "The Ponderosa" was placed where they show it, it would nothing but hot, dry, mud and crud caked, dusty hills and desert! In reality, "The Ponderosa" was a movie set located at Lake Tahoe. To get from there by horseback would require going from about a 7,000 foot altitude, to the top of a mountain pass, and then going down into the desert, heading east across Washoe Valley, and up to the top of another range, and eventually to VC itself. In an automobile, on modern roads, that would take probably 2 hours! The people who made that show were full of BS!

I look at it and it looks fine, the compass on the map tells me orientation.

@dominicmartin39417 жыл бұрын
Nothing wrong with the map!
@GeorgiaRidgerunner5 жыл бұрын
The map in the opening sequence is indeed wrong...to fix it they turned the compass sideways and that was done due to time constraints as error on the map wasn't noticed untill very late in production ... I watched a behind the scenes show once about and that's how I knew...
