This Poetry Festival was created and sponsored by Dr. Kathleen P. Decker and co-sponsored by The Poetry Society of Virginia. Six Featured Readers read for 15-20 minutes each. This playlist contains highlights of their reading, as well as one poem from each of the poets who read in the Open Mic section.
Gail Giewont earned her MFA in poetry and MAT in secondary English education from the University of Pittsburgh. She has taught in the English and Literary Arts departments at Appomattox Regional Governors School since 2011. Her poetry chapbook, Vulture, is available from Finishing Line Press. Winner of the Shann Palmer Poetry Prize and runner-up for the James River Writers Best Unpublished Novel Contest, her poetry and nonfiction can be found in multiple journals and the anthologies Bare and Nine Lives from Life in 10 Minutes Press. She is also the current Membership Chair of the Poetry Society of Virginia. Here she reads a poem in the Open Mic section of the Summer Poetry Festival entitled "Dear God of Nowhere."
