Irish fan here - worst time possible for Ireland to be playing South Africa away. Boks are hungry for revenge and most of Ireland’s team is devastated by awful end to club season with Leinster. Ireland also ran out of gas and missed out on a grand slam which I’m sure still hurts. Ireland also missing possibly their two most important players - Keenan and Gibson Park. It feels like all the momentum is running against Ireland and that the Boks are really treating this like a massive game. The Boks are unquestionably the best team in the world and I fear they could really rip a vulnerable Ireland to shreds this weekend.

It is what it is...SA faces the similar challenges during the end of the year tour matches. Boks also missed Marx & Pollard against the Irish during the WC. Similar the Irish miss players now in this upcoming Test match. Apart from the WC the previous 2 Wins of the Irish was at Home...but now it's in the Boks's backyard. 1 Test could y e closer than many expect but come the 2nd Test the Boks might just possibly be Hitting their Straps & when this happens they could very well Rip the Irish apart. But it remains to be seen, looking forward to the Epic Clash

"It is what it is" rubbish, there is no comparison, the boks have enough top players to field 4 or 5 squads who could compete against the best sides in the world, Irelands player loss for this test is devastating, our 9 and 10 have 14 caps, and only started a few games, our full back is a centre who is making his debut out of position, that would never happen to SA. By comparison the boks 9, 10 and 15 have 54, 69 and 93 caps, that's a gulf of experience. Enjoy your little 'boks fest' but it will be a hollow victory at home against a depleted team, best wait until Ireland are back to full strength regarding the 1 v 2 thing. Very disappointing behavior from the boks leadership.

South africa has a global season with players playing locally and internationally. They also have kitshoff, kleyn, de jager, willemse out injured and vermeulen retiring. Could make a lot of excuses but everyone has their issues to deal with.

The Boks lost to Ireland at the world cup in a close game due to Manie missing kicks, and that was a full strength Irish team and not one Irish fan would/could admit to that. They were convinced that they smashed the Boks. Don't start making excuses now. There are injuries in the Springbok camp as well, and they have all been involved in tough games during the URC and Champions Cup. The one thing I do agree on , is the depth of the South African players.

Matt, with all due respect, Ireland did not "unsettle" the Boks. Yes, the Boks lost. But the Boks were not uncomfortable. The Boks did not have key players in that game and the missed kicks ultimately cost the Boks the game at the WC. Yes, Ireland deserved to win but they had their best against a Bok side that did not have the best XV. With the same squad the Boks had in the final, I think that would have been a different outcome in that pool game.

I’m backing Ireland, England, France and Wales. Alan needs to back Ireland a little more as how often have they let us down? Belief is infectious and when the pressure is on you can feel the difference it makes. I’m all for outlining the rational and chances but if it’s borderline you have to back your side in my opinion. No Irish awards are given out for fuelling others team’s belief, it’s not “them of them” it’s “team of us”. However, a nice little rivalry has developed between SA and Ire whether you like it or not. The stats since professionalism started in 2000 speak for themselves. We've also developed a nice little rivalry with the AB's, whether the AB's like it or not. Five wins a piece in the last 15 years. Anyway, it's only rugby. World rankings mean nothing and are not a fair reflection of how teams are placed, if Ireland, England and Wales get thumped world rankings will not change much, so please stop embracing the false notion that being number one in the world means you're the best. As an All Black fan, I've continued to say the same, even when they were ranked number one as well. The real ranking is how many times a team has won in any given year and what trophies are in the cabinet, also the greatness of a team is measured on how consistent they are year on year.
