Viriboni, the majestic Bhairavi Varnam
This particular compostion is very dear to my heart for so many reasons. Probably because, at a time when I had literally zero idea on how to play for an Ata Tala Varnam, I was challenged to accompany this distinguished composition, which I miserably failed. But since then, each time I listen to this Varnam, especially the recordings of yester-year legends; it's like a stimulus or a driving force that inspires me to improve and enhance my playing skills.
Years later, here's one such recording of this marvellous piece which was brilliantly sung by Vid. Prasanna Venkatraman accompanied by Vid. Keshav Mohankumar on the Violin and myself on the Mridangam held few weeks ago at Darbar Chamber, Ernakulam. Hopefully, I didn't fail this time :)
