Hey Terry In a past video you used a bycicle inner tube as a feeding ring. Having just installed a skimmer myself I tried an inner tube, the gold fish splashing around whilst feed is releasing the food from the tube. Have you got a better solution? Thank you, George
@Wrighty2 жыл бұрын
Hi George, This does happen with a feeding ring. My koi are quite big and a lot slower, so they're not too bad. A lot of people turn their skimmer off when feeding. If mine do flick one or two bits out of the ring, they've usually got it before it reaches the skimmer, but most of it stays in the ring. I'm not sure what to suggest mate, it is a problem. You could try sinking pellets. If I think of anything, I'll give you a shout mate, Terry.
@georgecromar40942 жыл бұрын
@@Wrighty thinking outside the box, its a Oase aquaskim (stands in the pond) so may try dropping the inner tube over the skimmer at feeding time! I have a net over the pond at the moment though 🙃 I cant turn the skimmer off cause it draws water through my in-pond water pump!

Hi Mike, This is what Absolute Koi have posted on their website about it: Absolute Koi. Virkon Aquatic will have an anti bacterial effect on the biological filters, however, at the dose rates suggested for normal pond conditioning, it will have a no negative impact, the filter media is so rich with bacteria with an active food source that the bacteria will increase in numbers quicker than Virkon Aquatic can inhibit growth. Test have shown that if overdosing has occurred during a serious infection out break. no negative effects on the filters have been observed.

Hi Terry, I’ve been using Virkon for years, particularly works well after spawning when the fish knock themselves about. Things clear up in days. I have just tried using the Virkon powder which is a bit cheaper. I had a nice conversation with the manufacturer regarding the differences between the tablets and the powder, the only difference is the powder does not have the anti foaming agent in it. where the tablets do. Best to apply the powdered mix slowly to stop foaming. I made up a bucket with a fine drip tap on and tested today. Works perfectly, no foam and saves money. Happy Days Keep up your great videos. Hi Terry. The Garden is looking lovely and I like how you've closed the end bit in now. Makes a nice summer house for you. I just watched Gary's video where you mention some occasional flicking your fish are doing. I had a similar problem. What I found is the water board have started adding Chloramine in the water and the 3 stage filters are not taking it out. I do love the way they tell us they are going to start doing that and it isn't straight forward to test for it. I've got some dip strips that I can use which were a really good buy. So, to combat that, I've started adding a few grams (you don't need much) of Sodium thiosulphate when I top the pond up after a filter clean and it looks like the flashing has stopped (touch wood).
@Wrighty2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jim, and thank you, it's very much appreciated mate. Yes, the koi flicking has been driving me crazy. I did 2 scrapes and found nothing, so I thought I'd missed something, like the smaller parasites. So I treated with the Colombo Alparex, and they're still flicking. I must say, I won't be using that Alparex again, I don't like that at all. They were ok when I first put it in, but after about half an hour, they all sat on the bottom. I very nearly started doing water changes, but they did perk up a bit. They also stopped eating, and were not happy. Over one week down the line, and my pond water still looks murky. Thanks for the info mate, I really appreciate it. I'll certainly look in to it, that would explain a lot. Thanks again mate, you're a gem 👍👍 take care, Terry.
