It was on backorder when I purchased mine and it took about a month to arrive. Astonishing piece of kit really. The price? I justified it by the fact that I wanted the best for my simulator rig. Building a sim rig is a rabbit hole and as such the peripherals add up and up and up. I'm happy with it out of the box so we shall see what time will tell.

It’s disappointing that you deducted 1 point just because Virpil charged a high end price for a high end device. You get what you pay for, and in this case you’re paying for a 5/5 device.

I have exactly the same feeling. If you go so deep into simulations, spending thousands on a computer, screens and all the stuff, why would you bother paying few hundreds for a super high quality control that probably will last years?

@@mururoa7024 well luckily I have one sitting right in front of me! It just showed up today haha. Setting up the detents now, and if I’m not mistaken it seems like the easiest way to perfectly match the detents with a plane is to adjust them with the allen wrench in game to manually line them up with the jet trust levels. Or did you find an easier method?

@@topshelfmusicgroup5899 There's not really a method. Use a white sharpie to mark the position once you like where they are now and if you plan on swapping them once in a while.

Mine should be arriving within the next couple of weeks... (card was charged this past weekend). Good review, although taking a point off for price seems a bit unfair... Yes it costs a lot relatively, but it's a quality product. We don't downgrade Ferraris or McLarens because they are expensive. If that was the case, the highest rating anything good and expensive could ever receive would be 4 out of 5.

Yes and it took about 6 weeks between me placing an order and it arriving. I ordered a flight stick and base as well but unfortunately that is stuck in uk customs at the mo, should hopefully be a bud on that soon

The price is steep indeed, considering you need a stick and base and rudder pedals (if the stick does not have the twist). BTW I see on the panel a selector for modes; did you use this with ED and were you able to switch that one to swap modes, so you can assign the buttons to different functionalities (like when you go from combat mode to exploration mode to mining mode and such? ) Is that done via Virpil software or in the ED controls setup?

I don't think price should affect the number of stars. More stars means (in theory) a better product , which means it could/should cost more. As an owner of the CM3, if this throttle doesn't get 5 stars then no throttle will get 5 stars, not even close. What I would deduct maybe half a star for would be the software, which most Virpil owners have come to criticize although it has improved over time. I would rate this throttle 4.5 stars for this reason

VKB's STECS are all out of stock, TWCS is still around 100EUR (the crazy part is that HOTAS set only adds like 25EUR to the price) and people who bought into Virpil are now saying their throttles develop button issues after prolonged use. :(

You won't know how good the build quality until you open the device and look at its circuit pcb and wire setup. Both Thrustmaster and Virpil are remarkably messy whilst Logitech ruined anything Saitek ever did. The only clean ones from both an aesthetic but most importantly Electromagnetic Compatibility perspective are honestly VKB.

You're out of your mind if you deduct a star from the score just because it's expensive.

Why? Price effects everyone a little differently. Some people would have to save for months to afford this throttle. Maybe even have to give up some things. It's a 5 star product with a mark against it for cost... The mark represents the suffering some will go through to obtain it. If you can afford it, get one, it's awesome.

lol, it is the best available only if you are right-handed. The throttle can only be used with the left hand on a Stick(R) + Throttle(L) setup. For this price it is totally unjustifiable that VIRPIL does not offer this throttle in either an ambidextrous version or a right hand version (thumb buttons on the left). Note that they do make a right-handed and left-handed version of the stick (Constellation Alpha). So why not make a throttle that left-handed ppl can use? Using a throttle from a different manufacturer would cause interoperability issues with the VIRPIL stick and panels. So as things stand I'll not be buying any hardware from VIRPIL until they offer a throttle i can operate on a Stick(L) + Throttle(R) setup. At the price they are asking I expect nothing but total satisfaction. Not amused 🙁
