It should be mentioned that this tune was made in less than an hour with samples he received 5 minutes before starting. It is one of his many OHC (One Hour Compo) entries. I used to join those compos too, and I don't think I recall a single time when Virt joined and didn't win.

He made this in AN HOUR?
@ProyectXylem5 жыл бұрын
@@MasterJoJYTP Yeah, he had this thing with some friends called "Kwakfest", which is "here's a theme, write a song in one hour". Search for some of his entries, World's Most Wanted Wiener has a sick bass, and Supabonk is what happens when virt is really drunk.

It's very rare that a guy can make a song that's sound like it's supposed to go with whatever its title is. Virt can do that. He always does that. I like that. I like Virt.

His name is Jake Kaufman too BTW. He did a lot of work for WayForward games, like the Shovel Knight, Shantae, and Mighty Switch Force soundtracks.

I don't agree. If you define a song's theme based on which associations you make from its sounds, then I don't agree. Jake has plenty of songs that don't at all go with its title. But he has a handful that are pretty representative of what their titles are, and very accomplished so. So he certainly _can_ do that. That you feel as if all his songs fit their titles only means you have a different context from me. Perhaps Jake is making references to a game about food, about plants or about space that I have never played and therefore don't associate the two things. It's like when you meet a new person named Mike and you think to yourself "he definitely does not look like a _Mike_ to me". This music obviously conjures a sense of partying with a pool and flowers to you, but to me it sounds exploratory: a young boy or girl travelling into the sunset on a mysterious, but well planned journey to discovery and they're envisioning what they'll come across. I take this from the rhythm which is set to a lively strolling tempo, and tinny/cold lead voice to the bluesy/cirque-like lonesomeness in the melody which progresses from mystery to excitement to wonder and is grounded in the bass in the chorus and is also saturated by harmony as if riding (by train/bike) while retaining the rhythm, but is naturally interrupted by the funky verse. Yet there is a warm undertone; a sense of accomplishment and joy (perhaps the arpeggios playing christmasly dominants) . This is roughly the same order in which I personally experience emotions when travelling safe and exploring. The sense of wonder is very recognisable and not at all reminiscent of partying. I'm interested in how other people experience this kind of music.

This is like the first time I ever properly listened to any chiptune and it's so insanely good. And it's probably very embarrassing but this hit into my feels for some reason, I just felt reminded of like old video games, it has this weird vibe that some of the games I used to play when I was 7 have. Or maybe generally a very certain collection of games or game mods for games from the 90's like Classic Doom maybe cause I've played some that kind of encapsulate this feeling. I wasn't born to experience the 90's but I still had some 90's games as a kid. I wish these times could come back though. And we could like, make ourselves something that is close to it.
