I have a son aged 3.5 years. He was exposed to screen when he was less than 8 months old until 18 months. Me and husband work in IT and it was the covid situation. We didn’t knew things would turn this way. There was no eye contact and response to name. Thats when I realised something was definitely wrong and visited child psychiatrist. She then diagnosed him with moderate autism. This was when he was 18 months old. We have stopped screen time completely and within 1 month his eye contact was back. Since 2 years he is going through OT,BT and also ST. We can see lots many changes and improvements due to early intervention. He is more social now and started verbal communication in 2 words. There are still some behavioural and understanding issues on which we are still working on. My suggestion to all parents is to believe your instincts when you feel that something is wrong. Don’t listen to your relatives. They usually say that some kids takes 5 years to talk and learn and therapies is a waste. I have heard these from manu people when i started 2 years ago. But I went ahead with my instinct and now i am Happy that i followed and acted immediately. The kind of physical and emotional pain that we go through, no one can understand until they are in our shoe.

This is sooo true. My son is 4.5 years now and has been free from TV and mobile for close to 5 months now. He is showing tremendous improvement. He has food intake issues which didn't happen without giving him mobile. Otherwise we would have stopped mobile and TV a lot earlier.

Difficult at first but slowly he forget the screen. And i am so grateful because i can see the development of my son. My daughter, before 2.5, she was perfectly alright.. used to speak a few words and was a happy kid.. covid time changed our life.. she started to watch lots of tv.. because of covid situation, we never took her out to play with other kids.. we were so scared if she got covid.. coming to the current situation, we enrolled her in a daycare 3 months back.. but she is not interested in playing with any kids.. she likes to be around her caretakers.. she speaks very minimum words.. doesn't follow any commands .. if I call her name, she won't respond .. but if I call her name along with her favorite food name, then she looks and comes towards us... poor eye contact also.. we stopped her screen time to zero around 3 months back (same time she joined playschool).. she totally adjusted with it.. but she is in her own world without following any commands or not using language for her needs.. she never asks any questions like what or why? May be she doesn't know it at all.. we are starting her speech therapy.. waiting for the admission. I was so worried and did her analysis.. and the result is saying mild autism.. I'm planning to resign my IT job and focus only on my daughter..somewhere my mind is saying she may have virtual autism.. because she can remember lots of images from her books and answer me, though.. Could you please let me know. What do you think.. is it virtual or classic.. I'm really sorry for such a lengthy message.. I hope you can understand my situation.. Hi Mam. Thanks for your videos. My girl is 2.9 months old. She's exposed to too much of screen time because I'm working and my husband is taking care of her. She is admitted in a play school just a month ago. She's stopped her screen time too. Now she's mingling with the persons she knows. That is, initially she used to cry without us, me and my husband. Now she's playing with the neighbors. She's not crying now. Can I take it as a kind of improvement? Sometimes she responds to her name. Bust she can't ask whatever she wants. She takes us to the particular place and indicate that she wants it. But she identifies the things from the cartoon to the real life. But not responding when we ask what's the name of a particular thing? Bust she knows the name? What to do Mam. I'm worried a lot. Please guide me.

Hello Dr A very helpful video. My child is 17M old when we actually realized that he's not responding to his name and not having eye contact. He had been exposed to screens since he was like 5months old. Other than that he's socially active plays with his siblings. Dr diagnosed him Virtual austism. 1- My question is what do u mean by NEARLY NORMAL? 2- Does the child who get affected by screen time already have the tendencies or it can happen to any normal child?

My nephew had about 12-14 hours per day of screen time with various movies like Moana and Frozen - he is now 4 years old and cannot even say his own name. He will sometimes randomly say a phrase but it doesn’t truly come off as interaction. I believe he was damaged permanently but he is only 4 and one day it could change. I’m scared :(

I did the same with my daughter. We identified the situation when she was 21 months. Red flags- no eye contact, no response to name, visual stimming and not talking. Once we took away all screen time and started therapy eye contact came back . 50% response to name. I also followed GFCF diet , no msg and no refined sugar diet. Her stimming is now only 10%. @@rajeshseptember09 Because both have similar signs / problems it is difficult to say . Autistic kids and virtual autistic kids both improve with spending more time with kids , taking them out , less screen time and building on language skill stating from single words . One thing is true - one in 60 Americans are diagnosed with autism . But kids who grow up on streets in India pick up language better . All this modern technology is burning the child’s brain and parents are themselves addicted to screen - too many tech parents and too little interaction with kids . Grandparent either don’t live with them or are dead .
